In a closely fought and exciting semi final which had it's share of twists and turns Alex and Michael produced golf that would have been worthy of a final. After 3 holes were halved the next 4 were exchanged before Alex won 8 & 9 to turn 2 up but defending champion then birdied the next 3 holes to take the lead. 13 was halved and Alex squared the match on 14. A great approach shot on 15 made Alex favourite but a missed putt left the match all square and on 16 another great approach shot by Alex was bettered by Michael and in true match play style Alex holed out and Michael's putt lipped out. Alex's tee shot on 17 was just short left and Michael finished a bit long right of the green and his chip ran 15ft beyond the hole leaving Alex 2 putts to win which he managed to convert making him the youngest ever Gents club championship finalist and will play Rory Tinker in next weeks final. In this form Alex can go into the final full of confidence, his iron play tonight was sublime and a repeat will make him very hard to beat.
Great fun tonight with Amy Mitchell (perfect attendance), Conor Hughes, Luke Melvin, Nicholas Melvin and Owen Voice who joined me for a fun Texas scramble on Leitfie. Amy, Owen and I ran out 2 stroke winners.

BIG WEEK OFF TO A FLIER
Last night Michael Brodie and myself secured our place in the Gents foursomes semi finals with a 3&2 win whilst giving away 12 shots. Tonight it's Gents scratch semi final with Michael taking on Alex Simpson so we will definitely have one junior in the Gents final. I expect a really good match as both of them are playing some of the best golf I have witnessed from our juniors over the years and both are on form with confidences high. We are holding another fun event tonight at 5.30pm and hopefully numbers will be up from Monday - a big thank you to Amy Mitchell and Flora McGregor who joined me on the course and during a rain break in the range Amy learned how to shape shots whilst Flora worked on her driving, I was very impressed with both girls. Tomorrow sees our final Scratch league match when we host Blairgowrie and a win will secure our semi final berth. Then Alex and I head off to St Andrews to meet Paul McGinley and Beatrix Recari and join the Allianz golf camp for 5 days of intensive coaching and playing with lots of fun on the links. Off the course congratulations to junior Captain Callum Ewan who has been elected Head Boy at his school and Michael for passing his driving test at the first attempt.

GENTS CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINALS
Defending Gents Club Champion Michael Brodie had a 3&2 win which will pair him with fellow junior Alex Simpson who had a 5&4 win and this will set up a dress rehearsal for the Junior Club Championship final which Alex is defending champion. It is a pity they were in the same side of the draw as both players have the ability to win this years Gents Championship and I look forward to watching both matches. What a great reflection to the standard of golf within our section - well done to both of you.
