ANOTHER RECORD SET BY STRATHMORE JUNIORS

Tonight Strathmore created another new record by fielding the first all girl Junior Scratch League team. Unfortunately the result was not good but our girls should be pleased with their own performances against a very strong Blairgowrie side. Megan lost 3&2 to Gregor who was 2 under through 16, Amy lost to Katy by a similar margin and Kirsten should be delighted to take Conor (the short game master) to the 18th hole before losing 1 down. Next up we host Muckhart on Monday.
Tonight Ryan and Ewan upgraded their Hire Clubs to new sets and it looks like we could have yet another new member as Adrian’s wee sister was out having a practice and from the shot I seen her play looks like she has a decent swing.
Looks like another 3 records are about to go as well with 2 more youngsters and a parent about to join and these 2 along with another existing Junior looking to join our Club Hire Scheme this season just gets better.

MONDAY NIGHT A BIG SUCCESS

6 teams took part - 6 adults and 6 youngsters and Archie and Dawn beat Isla and I with a better last 6.
This is so much fun playing Golfsixes with the youngsters. Jaki and Rhoda played for the first time and it won’t be their last time. All the juniors who are playing in these events are improving and putting the coaching into practice and it is showing.
More breaking news - Archie and Keegan are off to compete in the Scottish Open next week (a bit ahead of schedule) I am so proud of these two who are forming the backbone of our Golfsixes Team but I know they will soon play themselves out of this by gaining Congu handicaps and begin to compete at a higher level. For a 7 and 8 year olds they show so much potential and I for one can’t wait to see how they get on in the Drive, chip and putt competition. Not only that but the 2 of them have paired up for our inaugural Golfsixes Junior Open which will definitely take place as Adrian and Lochlan have also entered and that would make a great match up.
Another enquiry about membership tonight and another member wishes to join the Scheme which would take us up to 47 sets this year. Our swapping up is going full tilt with Isla, James (John) and Katie all trading in.
Success breeds success and what is happening at Strathmore is beyond my and our wildest dreams, but as they say you get out what you put in, and all the hard work over the years is continuing to pay off big style.

STRATHMORE HOSTS THE GOLFSIXES

What a brilliant day !!! Firstly I would like to thank Dawn, Jackie and Frankie for their help, support and commitment. Without that things would not happen. I will continue with the thanks, David and Peter for allowing us to use the Rannaleroch course and making it a shotgun start which meant everyone finished at the same time. This worked superbly. Joint Junior Captain Megan who administered the putting competition. John in the office for all his help with admin etc. Dan for setting up the tables and the catering staff for the food and drinks and finally the green keeping staff for the condition of the course.

The six teams thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we watched some amazing golf reflected in the scores. We played holes 1 to 6 had a longest drive on the 7th then a nearest the pin on the 9th on Leitfie and a challenge on the putting green.

We had 3 players making debuts Conan, Liam and Lochlan and I was so impressed by their play and all that coaching is paying dividends. I had one of the of the others Team managers saying how impressed he was with Archie and Keegan’s ability at such a young age and Archie is helping to build Chloe’s confidence to become the player we all know she will be. The team spirit is infectious and with Adrian (the joker) still to make his debut I believe our players will just get better and better.
We finished 2nd today to a strong Carnoustie team only 2 points behind them but with 3 events to go we can still do it. This event is amazing as it’s bringing youngster together in a fun competitive environment and giving them a chance to play other courses and meet new friends.

HUGE WEEKEND COMING UP

Tonight Matthew was the first to trade up his old set for one of our new sets. He is delighted. We have a big day tomorrow with more clubs getting swapped and a family fun competition. Then Sunday is the big one with us hosting the Golfsixes with Arbroath, Ballumbie, Carnoustie, Kirriemuir and Montrose our guests. Really looking forward to this event as it is so much fun for the youngsters.
The Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship qualifying took place today with Megan making the Clark Rosebowl knockout along with last years Junior Captain Kirsty. 2 past members also played and Katy made the last 16 but Emily missed the cuts. Good luck to all in the match play.
Another of our past juniors Hazel MacGarvie has made the 🇬🇧 and 🇮🇪 squad for the Vagliano Trophy against the rest of Europe.

LATEST UPDATE

Our first 20 sets of replacement clubs have arrived and I need to get them out swapped over asap. We have exciting news also for our old sets which involves growing golf in another area and giving the children of Army personnel the chance to try golf and grow the sport. Strathmore are at the forefront of growing Junior Golf and hopefully this is just the start.
