SCOTTISH UNDER 14 CHAMPIONSHIP

Alex Simpson finished tied 13th and tied as top Scot and should be very happy with his performance today at Bothwell. For full results click on the link  http://www.golfbox.dk/livescoring/tour/?language=2057#/competition/634/leaderboard/1034

Amy Mitchell playing off a handicap of 18 should be very happy with her 2 rounds which included 5 pars and 8 bogeys in day 1 and 6 pars and 9 bogeys in day 2. Spoke with her and she loved the experience and as this was her first national Championship she can't wait to compete at this level again.

Kirsty Brodie finished tied 6th and top Scot and will be delighted after putting 2 good rounds together and her confidence will be sky high going into the final events of the season.

I am so proud of all 3 players - top Scottish Boy and Girl and Amy for not letting 1 bad hole effect her and finishing her last 6 holes in 2 over par. With Michael Brodie also winning the Gent's County stroke play Championship what a couple of days for Strathmore juniors.

MICHAEL BRODIE BECOMES GENTS COUNTY STROKE PLAY CHAMPION

Well done Michael on winning the Gents County stroke play Championship yesterday at Pitlochry with a magnificent score of 135 and finishing 2 strokes ahead of the field. I made this prediction back in April and am so pleased for Michael and what he has achieved so far.

HOW MANY MORE RECORDS CAN WE ACHIEVE THIS SEASON ?

My quote from 5th April  - 2014 is going to be the best year yet, mark my words.Strathmore juniors will again be re writing history. "Think positive and your dreams can become reality"  Michael proved again today that he is the number 1 junior in Perth and Kinross. After becoming Junior Stroke play Champion last year he played Craigie Hill's Sean Davidson in the semi final of the match play at Muckhart this morning and took an early lead and was 1 under par through 3 and 2 up. Although he was pegged back to 1 on 3 occasions his consistent driving and iron play eventually wore his opponent down and he ran out a comfortable 4&3 winner. The final was contested with Muckhart's Ross White last years match play Champion and with Michael finding trouble off the 1st tee and losing out to a birdie on 2 Ross made the perfect start. After missing a birdie putt on 3 to pull 1 back Michael then birdied 3 and 4 to square the match. Losing 9 and winning 10 and 11 took the lead for the first time, a superb birdie on 13 and a great up and down par on 15 took him to dormie and when his opponent flew the green on 16 Michael's victory was secured and he became the 1st Strathmore match play Champion and only the 2nd P&K player to have won both titles and the 1st to win them in different seasons.

SCOTTISH UNDER 14 UPDATE

Kirsty Brodie has got off to a great start with an opening round of 75 - only 3 over par and is in 7th place. Amy Mitchell also had a good round and finished 3 over her handicap. Both girls play tomorrow in the 2nd round and will go in with plenty of confidence after today's scores. Alex Simpson lies tied 36th in the boys and will be keen to improve his position.

ALEX SIMPSON SELECTED TO PLAY FOR SCOTLAND

Spoke with Alex last night after he had completed his 2nd round and qualified tied 25th at the English under 14 Championship. He is disappointed about getting off to solid starts in both rounds and not finishing them as well but goes into todays final round buoyed up after being selected to play for Scotland in a match against France at Bothwell Castle this Saturday which is the venue next week for the Loretto Scottish under 14 Boys and Girls Open Championship so a good way to warm up for that. He is hoping to improve his position today and we wish him well when he tees off at 11.10 this morning.
