Winter is past and the new Season has teed off.
I am really looking forward to the 2010 season, Strathmore Juniors have a really full year of fun and competition golf to look forward to and I make no apologies for the length of this report.

Firstly congratulations and welcome back to Alex Simpson who won the Winter League and reduced his fun handicap again in the Captain drive to 19 .

Winter League Result 2009
1st Alex Simpson 179
2nd John McKenna 183
3rd Josh McKenna 188

The Leitfie Summer League should be very interesting with Fiona Murray gaining her first handicap of 54, Frankie Henvey who reduced his new fun handicap in the Captains drive in to 48 and Megan Ashley who has still to hand in her 3rd card for her handicap and last years winner Matthew Sime who will be looking to retain his trophy along with John and Josh McKenna who finished just behind Alex in the Winter League and Benjamin Fischer who missed out with a broken arm last year. With many others who will enter I know this will be
a very hotly contested competition.

The Summer League on Rannaleroch starts this Saturday with 4 names already signed up. This competition is open to Juniors who are members of the Big Course and hold either Full or Junior Clubs Handicaps administered under the Congu handicap system.
3 Junior Boys (over 15) will open their season in the Gents Medal on Saturday with Allan Easton then heading off to West Kilbride to compete in the Scottish Boys in a field of 256. The format is Scratch match play and Allan tees off on Monday 5th April in Match 72 at 16:29pm against Iain Watson (St Andrews) and the winner will meet either Daniel Thompsett (Aboyne) or Ross Munro (Monifieth) on Wednesday 7th April at 8:49am.
Next week sees Strathmore host the SLGA under 16 Girls Open Stroke Play Championship on the 8th and 9th April. This sees the cream of British and European talent competing against each other, with Strathmore being represented by both Emily Aird and Hannah Robb. The Junior Section wishes Allan, Emily and Hannah all the best and know they will be a credit to the Club and I look forward to updating you on their progress.

I will try my best to keep you informed with how everyone is performing and would appreciate if any other of our Juniors have entered any other events to keep me advised of where and when they will be playing so I can keep the Section up to date and don't miss anyone out.

On behalf of the Junior Section I wish everyone a successful season and am sure we will see a lot of our players gain personal success in lowering their handicaps and winning both Individual and Team events. After seeing most of you play in the 2 Texas Scrambles and the Captains Drive In I have already seen the improvements many of you have made and with so much planned for 2010 I am sure you will again enhance the reputation of Strathmore Golf Club Junior Section at all the levels you compete in. If you require any advice or help please contact me and I will try my best to assist you but always remember Golf is FUN so get out there and just ENJOY the game.

TEXAS SCRAMBLE TAKE TWO

Another very successful Junior Texas Scramble took place this Sunday. We had a superb turnout for what was a bit of a Chilly morning. However the scoring was once again brilliant with a equaling par score 29 winning the event. The team was captained by Gents Captain Eric Gray and consisted of Josh McKenna, Frankie Moran and Matthew Sime. Well done all!

New member Megan Ashley also received her Level One Certificate from Junior Convenor Iain Butchart after completing holes one and nine in 11 shots. Megan was accompanied by Beginners Convenor Jackie Moran.

Below are some photos from Sunday.

TEXAS SCRAMBLE

What a great start to the junior sections season. We had over 20 members coming along to join in the fun with a Texas Scramble. Four teams took to the fairways with Team Captains, Iain Butchart, Jackie Moran, Frank Moran and Janet Griffiths.  All four teams returned exactly the same magnificent scores of 29!! Amazing! So Iain and his committee had to get their thinking caps on to find the eventual winners. The scores went to the very last 3 holes before the teams could be seperated and the winning team consisted of a new and very welcomed member Megan Ashley plus John McKenna, Cory Miller and Alexandra McIntyre. Team Captain was Iain.

Our thanks go to all the Team Captains and Lyndsay Robb for all their help on the day and also to Junior Captain Rory Tinker who came along to present the prizes. We also wish our Junior Captain a speedy recovery from a dislocated finger.

We will be holding another Texas Scramble this Sunday 21st so please sign up.

Well done all and look forward to seeing you all next week.
