CHRISTMAS PARTY!

What a fantastic turnout for our first ever Strathmore Juniors Christmas Party! We were delighted that so many of you came along and made the day so special! We were also very taken aback with so many of you wanting to play our Texas Scramble on what can only be described as a very wet and cold day! So very well done to all the golfers!! Our winning team on the day was captained by our Junior Club Champion Allan Easton who along with Brad Bannerman and Daryl Todd who returned a brilliant score of 30. In 2nd place was the team captained by past Junior Captain Mark Scott and team members Lewis MacLeod, Jack Dickson and John McKenna who also scored 30 but lost out on first place by virtue of best last 6. 3rd place was taken by Team Captain Rory Tinker and his team of Euan Robb, Josh McKenna and Kirsty Brodie with 32. Well done to all the team and a big thank you to all our 'Captains'!

Following golf we all enjoyed a fabulous Christmas Lunch. We had crackers on the table and juice was also provided. Committee member Lesley Haynes devised a brilliant quiz which each team completed during lunch. A big thank you to Lesley for all her hard work in making such a fun quiz. Strathmore Golf Club's President Sandy Bushby came along and presented the prizes to the winning teams of the quiz. In third place was Tod Bannerman, Cameron Gray and Mark Menzies. In second place was John McKenna, Lewis MacLeod and Jack Dickson and the overall winners were Hannah Robb, Ryan McKenna, Callum Ewan and Sean Storry. Very well done to all.

Our Party followed lunch and we were visited by a very happy little elf who took charge of all the games. Among the games were musical statues, Four Corners and pass the parcel. Then our 'little Elf' brought his big friend into the room and he was of course Santa Claus. We were all delighted he could take some time off from what must be a very busy time to come along to give all our juniors a Christmas gift. Thank you Santa!

We then continued with more games and lots and lots of prizes. Many thanks to all who played and helped with the games!

The day was indeed a great success made even more special when our Beginner Squad convener Jackie Moran managed to come along and see everybody. We wish her a speedy recovery so she can once again take part in all junior days at Strathmore. Also a big thank you to all the helpers and organisers.

Below is a slide show of the day. Sorry there are so few photo's but I got carried away with the games and forgot to take them!!

    ANOTHER GAME TO TRY!!

As I said last week I would change the games on a weekly basis, so try and give this putting game a try!! Wait a wee second for it to load, seems to take a moment!!! The further away the putter is before you hit the ball the farther it will go! I will leave this for another week then see what is on offer next!!!

    Have fun!

    Friday 24 October 2008

    NEW GAMES FOR WINTER DAYS!!

As the weather is not the best for golf for the next month or two I am going to put gadgets and games on the right handside of the page for you to play and see. This week it is Hangman. Simply type letters in until you guess the word or until you have no more guesses left!! You can then look the word up if you are unsure of the meaning. Letters that are not in the word will be listed on in the garbage bin line so you don't duplicate them!

After we have done a few different ones we will have an on line vote for your favourite and I will put the favourite one back on for another wee while!!

    Easy peasey! Have fun!!

    Monday 20 October 2008

    WINTER LEAGUE UPDATE

Winter League has only just started and already I have had 25 cards returned!! But what is even more outstanding is that 5 of you have already had your Junior Club Handicap cut and two of you have had two cuts! Pretty impressive stuff.

Todd and Brad Bannerman have returned the most cards with four of the required 8 cards, thats brilliant lads. Ryan Craig is not far behind with three cards returned however what is impressive with Ryan and Tod is that they have had a cut to their handicap with two of the cards they have played. Well done Ryan and Tod, keep that up!

The five who have reduced their handicaps so far are Tod Bannerman and Ryan Craig by an amazing 6 shots followed by Brad Bannerman by two shots and Kirsty Brodie and Hannah Robb by one shot.

Well done all of you and if you haven't already played in the winter league come on what are you waiting for!!!

But the most fantastic news is that Matthew, due to his age and section, has been selected to be in the GB&I team which takes in America in 2009. This Wee Wonders tournament will take place at Pinehurst, North Carolina next July. What fantastic fantastic news for Matthew and although just a wee boy is a huge star at Strathmore.

Matthew also showed no sign of nerves and even managed a wee wave to his supporters as he strode down the 1st, a par 4 and even knocked a 15ft putt in to par the hole! He finished his round with a fantastic 46. He at present is 9th in his age group (please remember he is the youngest there!)

OUR SCRATCH LEAGUE TEAM ARE ACE!
Our brilliant Scratch League Team did us all proud again last night when we faced Murrayshall Team at home. The team produced some fantastic golf and won the match 3-2. Special mention must go to Rory Tinker who not only notched his first win but did it in brilliant style with a hat trick of birdies on 15, 16 & 17 to win his match 3&1.
The team, as always, did Strathmore and themselves proud both on and off the course and are great fun to be around.
    Well done to you all!
    WHAT A CHALLENGE!

Young Matthew Sime and Elite Junior Convener were all set to play a challenge match over the 1st and 9th hole of Leitfie on Sunday. The challenge match had a slight twist in that Iain had to use Matthews clubs!!

After a toss of the coin and grand announcements onto the Tee by David Norman, Matthew hits his Tee shot straight down the fairway closely followed by Iain's shot left of the green. Both chipped onto the green but just missed their putts. As they were setting off to the final hole in this largely spectated match the heavens opened and both players and the crowds were soaked to the skin!!! The match was obviously abandoned.

However next Saturday will see this match resume at 11.30. So if you would like to come along support Matthew and Iain in this fantastic event please come along at 11.25.

    Enjoy the photos!
