CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2nd ROUND

8 players teed it up tonight and both the reigning champions showed they are up for defending their titles again this year. Stuart, scratch, shot a superb gross 78. Louis, handicap, shot a nett 71. Can some of the others up their games and challenge these 2 ?

REPORT FROM FORFAR

Conan shot a final round 79, with an 8 on 15. Superb score and huge boost to his confidence. Keir loved it and listen to the cheer he got when he smashed it down the first fairway yesterday.

FLAG CHAMPIONSHIP

5 players teed it up today and all of them hit great shots down the first. Andrew won the Championship by reaching the 8th green with his 36th shot. Hunter and Leighton both finished just off the green on 7, with Callum unfortunately finishing in the trees but also on the 7th. Kieran finished off the green on the fifth.
Andrew then got fitted for a set of hire clubs after outgrowing his own set. He immediately added about 10yds to his iron shots and 15-20yds to his drives. Think his fun handicap in the Leitfie Summer League is set to tumble. Great to see all the boys out having fun in a competitive environment.
Keir and Conan have been playing at Forfar in a 54 hole Junior Tour event over the last two days. Keir shot 101 today, 5 shots better than yesterday and had 4 pars. Conan shot 82 and 85 and is hoping to improve in round 3. Great experience for both boys. They are currently playing their final round.
After last Saturdays fantastic round by Angus, and his tremendous improvement, I made a phone call and have secured him a special invitation in next weeks Junior Tour event at Edzell. He has already booked a practice round and this will give a chance to test his obvious talent at another level.

FIRST CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER

Andrew takes the honours today with a fantastic nett 67, which could have been so much better. Work with the putter required but the rest of his game was solid. A personal best breaking 100 for the first time. Stuart took the scratch honours with a gross 82.
Kathryn took the first Saturday coaching sessions and was really impressed with everyone. Stuart got his swing speed up to 107 but Angus took it up a notch to 109. The umbrella target pitching is proving very popular and the competitive edge it brings is improving technique and consistency.

FIRST GOLFSIXES FOR 2024

First of all a huge thank you to the Centre for allowing us to have a shotgun start. Strathmore fielded a young inexperienced team with 4 of the 6 playing GolfSixes for the first time. The format is a pairs Texas Scramble over 6 holes with the accumulated scores from the 3 pairings added together. Our scores of 39, 38 and 35 gave us a total of 112 just 2 points behind winners on the day North Inch, Kinross finished 3rd. Brilliant to see all these youngsters out playing and having fun.
5 handicap cuts from yesterdays May Medal with Angus going from 8.6 to 3.1.
Another donation of £20 received from Angus MacLeod in memory of his brother Gavin who sadly passed away.

FIRST UNDER PAR ROUND BY A JUNIOR FOR OVER 5 YEARS

Today in the May Medal, played from the white tees, Angus bettered his best score ever by 4 shots when he hit a fantastic gross 71, including birdies on 5,7,10 and 12. It also shows what a great attitude he has being 3 over par after 3 holes, but not letting that bother him and responding so well. So pleased for him as he puts the work in. Now that his rugby training has finished he should be able to attend the coaching and can’t wait to see how much he can improve and how his confidence and consistency can grow.
Keir finished 2nd with a PB of 97 and a nett 66 including 2 sandy pars on 4 & 10. Ally also had a PB with a gross 98 nett 69 matched by Conan who’s eagle 3 on the 5th was his highlight.
Whilst all this was going on we had juniors up at the range and others out playing on Leitfie. Hunter shot 42 and followed up with a 40 reducing his handicap to 37. Andrew reduced his fun handicap to 34 after a superb gross 41 nett 23 which included 3 pars.

2nd NIGHT OF COACHING

After the success of last week’s coaching, Kathryn ramped it up this week. After the usual warmup routine, they were split into groups who rotated between pitching, chipping and driving sessions. She explained the basics of each aspect and Dawn and Jackie then took over running the pitching and chipping sessions. Kathryn then introduced Trackman, by explaining what it was and how it could be used as a tool to help improve swing speed and distance. She kept it really simple and the differences and improvements were amazing. Owen’s swing speed of 104 took the honours tonight, just ahead of Broden at 103 and Stuart at 102. Introducing modern technology and explaining how it works has had a really positive effect on all the juniors tonight and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
