UPDATE

Great to see so many out playing. Coaching stops this Saturday but I will be hoping most of you will be happy to play on during the Autumn and Winter. Let me know who can play on a Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon and I will try to arrange something for you all. Last weekend's results didn't go as planned but I think it's now time to look ahead and start preparing for next season and I believe we have so much talent within the section that 2018 will be our best season ever.

Wednesday 20 September 2017

WET WEDNESDAY

Despite the pouring rain 4 hardy souls turned up raring to go. Kirsten, Blair H, Fraser and Taylor. Felt  really sorry for Taylor who was so desperate to play but felt unwell and was in tears when she realised she wasn't going to be able to take part. Fraser hit some really good shots and his pitch on 11 and drive on 12 were the highlights. Blair who is getting used to his new clubs was very impressive and I am convinced he is ready to step up to the big course and will be taking him out for a full round very soon. Kirsten again proved how much her game has progressed and now that she has acknowledged that you can use different clubs to chip and pitch I believe combined with her understanding of lie, slope and club selection that another handicap cut is not far away.

ANOTHER BIG WEEKEND COMING UP

Saturday - Alex, Kirsty and Megan travel to the Junior Champion of Champions at The Dukes. Strathmore are the only Club in Scotland with 3 players competing.
Sunday - Alex is off with P&K Gents to Alloa for the Midlands Team Championship, Kirsty is playing in the Dunhill Schools Championship at The Dukes and Amy and Kirsten are playing in the P&K Junior Autumn meeting at Alyth.

Monday 18 September 2017

FINAL DAY

Unfortunately P&K lost out to Midlothian today 5&4. Kirsty won her foursomes and singles but Megan lost a close match against a very experienced Scottish Internationalist Gabrielle MacDonald. Dawn caddied for Megan this afternoon and was sending me texts to keep me updated, she was very impressed with her game and attitude and Gabs did say she had to play out of her skin to get a result, what a compliment to Megan who messaged me tonight to say how much she enjoyed the weekend and I am sure the memories will stay with her for a lifetime and she will become a better and more accomplished player because of this.
 Renfrewshire are county champions after

 countback against Midlothian

Renfrewshire are the 2017 Scottish women's county champions. They finished level on the 5pt mark (2 wins, 1 draw) with Midlothian after the three-day finals programme at Glenbervie Golf Club today (Sunday).
Earlier in the week the teams drew 4.5 in the match against each other.
It boiled down to individual games won over the three days and Renfrewshire (16-11) had the edge over Midlothian (14-5) in that respect.
Renfrewshire won their last match 6-3 against the defending champions Dumfries-shire, taking the foursomes 2-1 and the singles 4-2.
Midlothian beat Perth and Kinross 5-4 today.
Midlothian won the foursomes 2-1 and the singles were shared 3-3.
Renfrewshire achieved only their 10th win overall and their first since 2010 at Bothwell Castle

Megan Briggs is MVP with five wins and
sister Elaine wins four out of four!
Renfrewshire's Megan Briggs, pictured, was the MVP of the tournament with 5 wins from six outings. Sister Eilidh won all four of her matches and Carol Whyte also scored four wins out of six for champions Renfrewshire.
Eilidh  Briggs commented: “I couldn’t get a day off work on Friday, I’ve just started a new job as a PE teacher, but the team did well without me! I was 100 per cent over the weekend which was great, as I’ve not played for the county since 2014, so it was really good to come back and contribute. I was in the winning 2010 team as well, which was a duel with Midlothian too."
Midlothian had two players with four wins apiece - Gabrielle MacDonald and girls' champion 13-year-old Hannah Darling.

Great weekend and roll on Monday when it's back to coaching !!

BUSY SATURDAY AT STRATHMORE

Busy day at Strathmore today with 3 coaching sessions. I took Molly out for her 1st card for her fun handicap and based on that card it's looking like 44. Keegan was up next up and at 5 year old becomes our youngest ever to achieve a fun handicap, 54 amazing !!! Rhys is seen below with his 2nd certificate. I then took Kirsten out to work on her course management and yardages and was very impressed with her ability to not only be consistent but to listen and learn and then put what she has taught into practice and I believe she can reduce her handicap even further and I think it could happen soon.

DAY 2|

Scottish women's county title lies between Midlothian and Renfrewshire with a day to go at Glenbervie
Dumfriesshire lost their grip on the Scottish women's county championship trophy when they were beaten 5-4 by Midlothian on the second day of the three-day tournament at Glenbervie Golf Club today (Saturday).
It now looks a straight fight between Midlothian and Renfrewshire for the title. The drew 4.5-4.5 when they met on the first day and both won their second matches, Renfrewshire beating Perth and Kinross 5.5-3.5.
If both sides win their last matches, Midlothian against Perth and Kinross, and Renfrewshire against Dumfriesshire, it will come down to a countback of individual games won.

MEGAN TO BECOME OUR NEXT INTERNATIONALIST

Just had a message from a very excited Megan to inform me that she has been selected to play for Scotland under 16's against England at Montrose in 3 weeks time. She thoroughly deserves this honour after the fantastic season she has had so far. No one merits it more.
