OUR WEE WONDERS!!
Sunday saw Strathmore host the regional qualifiers of the 'HSBC Wee Wonders'. The competition is for players aged 5 to 12 and is played over a slightly shortened Leiftie Links Course. All competitors play 36 shots then place their flag where the last shot lands.

Strathmore Juniors had 2 section winners they were 8 year old Kirsty Brodie in the girls age 5-8 section who made it to the edge to the 8th green. Also 4 year old Matthew Sime who competed in the boys 5-6 age group (he only made it as he is five in August!) very nearly made it onto the 8th green with his 36th shot and won his section. Both now qualify to take part in the Regional Final which takes place again at Strathmore on Sunday 6th July.

Well done to you both, fantastic!!

Below is a photo of some of the 33 competitors.

Also below is the section winners.

Many thanks go to our President Peter Tinker and his wife Chris Tinker who came along and helped on the day.

SUBERB RESULTS FOR OUR JUNIORS

Didn't we do well!! Four junior boys Matthew Bell, Allan Easton, Grant Martin and Rory Tinker took part in the Perth and Kinross Junior Boys Spring Meeting and had fantastic results. Rory Tinker played exceptional golf and returned a 4 under handicap nett 61! Out of 42 players, Rory finished in 2nd place. Absolutely brilliant. Well done Rory yet another snip to your handicap! The CSS was 65. Our three other boys Matthew Bell, Allan Easton and Grant Martin also did us proud. Allan returned an excellent scratch score of 75 to be placed 6th in the under 16 section, Grant returned a 77 to be placed 8th in the same section and 9th overall in the handicap section. Matthew Bell returned a 79 scratch and was placed 24th overall in the handicap section.

Fantastic results boys we are over the moon with you all. To view the full results click below:

  • Our girls also did themselves proud at the Inter-County match against Fife which was played at Balburnie Golf Club on Sunday. Megan and Emily Aird were two of four girls who took part in the junior section of the match. Megan and Emily played a greensome match and after some fantastic golf, was very narrowly beaten with the final putt on the 18th to a grandstand of spectators. Well done Girls. Overall Perth and Kinross halved the match 3 - 3.

A great weekend for our juniors, well done!

    WELL DONE TAYLOR AND MARK

Two boys received their Level One and Level Two Certificates last night. Taylor Reid was one. He received his Level one Certificate from Club Professional Margot Smith during his coaching session.

    Well done Taylor.

Mark Smith also received a Level two Certificate last night from Junior Committee member Dawn Butchart. Well done Mark
You can receive your Level One Certificates by going out and completing hole number one and hole number two in 12 or less shots. If you achieve this complete a card with the scores you recorded on both holes and pop it in the junior box. Mark your card Level One, remembering to put your name and date on the card. Also the person you were with when you played must sign the card. For Level Two you play holes 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 and must complete all 5 holes in 30 shots or less then follow the above for your cards but put Level Two on the card.
If you are unsure ask any of the Junior Committee members.
    Have fun!

GOOD LUCK TO OUR JUNIORS THIS WEEKEND

This weekend six Strathmore Juniors are taking part in two P&K County Events.

Junior Girls Megan and Emily Aird have been selected to represent P&K Ladies County Golf Association in a 12 strong squad of 8 Seniors and 4 Juniors in a match against Fife County at Balburnie on Sunday. This is great achievement to be selected as there are over 70 county girls. Junior committee member Dawn Butchart, who is also P&K County Captain, will be there to cheer them on not only as Strathmore Juniors but also P&K players!

P&K Gents are hosting a Junior Boys Spring Meeting at Dunning on Sunday and Elite Junior Convener Iain Butchart has arranged for four Strathmore boys to take part. They are Allan Easton, Matthew Bell, Grant Martin and Rory Tinker. A great representation from Strathmore.

    Russell Bailey Shield

Sunday with great weather and a tremendous turn out 16 juniors teamed up with 16 adults to compete for the Russell Bailey Shield. Some great scores were recorded the top five were given pitch repair forks, they were:

2nd Michael Brodie & Steven Schofield
3rd Grant Martin & Fegus Matrin
4th Frankie Moran & Frank Moran

We were lucky to find out the history of the Shield, it was an honour to have Brian Jackson who had presented the Shield a number of years ago. This was named after his wifes grandfather who lives in Florida and our thanks go to Brian who presented the shield to winners Brad Bannerman and Iain Butchert.

So juniors keep checking the website and the juniors board for future events!

    WELL DONE OUR JUNIORS!!

I am absolutely delighted to report that our Junior Scratch League Team not only went out and played their hearts out on Sunday night, but they won their very first match 3.5 to 1.5 against Pitlochry. Pitlochry not only fielded a team whose average age was much higher than ours but whose average handicaps would have been lower than ours (but of course it was played scratch). Just Fantastic!!

The team consisted of Allan Easton, Matthew Bell, Megan Aird, Grant Martin and Emily Aird. All five had played 18 holes just an hour before and went out on a rainy night and did us all proud. Elite squad convener Iain Butchart was there to see them off and wish them well. He, along with all the members who were attending a BBQ and fun day, got completely wrapped up in the excitement.

The groups of spectators did not put any of our players off in fact they were encouraged by the support. A great night for the Junior Section and a superb start to their Scratch League career.

Well done all of you, we are very proud!
Iain asked this to be printed.
'I would like to say I was very impressed by the support and encouragement that each team member gave to one another and in the sporting fashion that both teams played their matches. A credit not only to yourselves but to Strathmore Golf Club. Well done and many thanks to you all.'
    Iain
Our Club President Peter Tinker has also contacted me and asked the following to be added.
'Warm congratualtions to all the Junior Scratch League Team who had such a fantastic match on Sunday. A wonderful result for the junior section and for Strathmore Golf Club. Well done all'
    Peter Tinker
    JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER

Sunday was the first round qualifier for the Junior Club championship. 8 juniors took part. They were current Junior Champion Allan Easton, Matthew Bell, Megan Aird, Grant Martin, Emily Aird, Alistair Gilmore, Rory Tinker and Brad Bannerman.

They all played very well and were a joy to watch. Highlight of the day for me was witnesing Rory Tinker's eagle 3 on the first hole!! WOW Rory!

    The results are as follows:

    Scratch
    Allan Easton 82
    Megan Aird 84
    Mathew Bell 88
    Emily Aird 89

    Handicap
    Emily Aird (19) 70
    Rory Tinker (20) 71
    Megan Aird (10) 74
    Alistair Gilmore (12) 75

    Well done all!

Also a big thank you to all the helpers who walked round with the juniors on Sunday. They were Jackie Moran, Fergus Martin, Dawn Butchart and Mark and Dawn Tinker. Great support for the juniors.
    CONGRATULATIONS MATTHEW

Our youngest member, 4 year old Matthew Sime received his second Certificate this weekend. To do this you must play holes 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 in 30 or shots or under. Matthew had already received his first Certificate a few weeks ago.

Well done Matthew you are a wee star!!

If you would like to try to get your first Certificate then all you have to do is complete holes 1 and 9 in 12 shots or under. When you have done this let Jackie know and she will organise your Certificate or like Matthew you can go for your 2nd Certificate. Next step is getting yourself and handicap. Can't be easier!! See some of the blogs previous which explains how to do this.

    Have fun!

    SCRATCH LEAGUE

Strathmore Junior Section will take part in our very first Scratch League Match on Sunday at home against Pitlochry. Strathmore's entry into the P&K Scratch League has been organised by Elite Squad Convener Iain Butchart and he is extremely pleased with the response from all of you who who have put your name down for consideration for the team.

The team has been picked on handicap alone and the players representing Strathmore on Sunday will be.

    Allan Easton
    Matthew Bell
    Megan Aird
    Grant Martin
    Emily Aird

We wish the team well and hope the weather will be a bit better!
