JUNIOR PRESIDENT RESULT

What a tremendous result for both Alex and Tod. Alex's round included 5 birdies for 39 points but he was pipped by Tod who's 41 points won the Junior Presidents Cup. Well played both.

SCOTTISH BOYS OPEN STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

The final 2 rounds were played today and Brad scored a 73 in the morning to move up to tied 16 and scored 77 in the afternoon for a total of 296 and tied 21st out of the 48 who qualified. Great performance over the 3 days and with a quality International field he should be really proud of his achievement.
Amy and Megan who are competing at the Scottish Ladies Junior Open Stroke Play Championship had a mixed day with Amy having the better outward half but Megan finished ahead after a steady back 9. Good luck tomorrow girls.

ANOTHER 2 RECORDS ACHIEVED TODAY

Brad did the double at the Scottish Boys Open Championship at Royal Burgess by being the first Strathmore junior to make the cut and qualify for the final 36 holes tomorrow. Todays round of 1 over par combined with his 3 over yesterday tied 27th and included his second Strathmore record being the 1st junior to score an Albatross - on the par 5 6th. Alex missed the cut but can take a lot of positives from the 2 days and has another 3 years of competing in this age group.

Amy and Megan found it hard at Drumpellier in the Scottish Ladies Junior Open Stroke Play Championship today and will be keen to improve their scores over the next 2 days. Play well girls.

MEGAN MAKES THE FINAL

Megan was getting 5 shots from Eilidh Crawford of Kingsfield and found herself I down after the first. Great par putts on 2 and 3 kept the deficit the same. On 5 Megan used her shot to draw level before going ahead at 6. Both players found a bunker on 7 and Megan played a superb shot and holed out to extend her lead. After 11 Megan was 4 up but Eilidh was not finished and responded by winning 3 on the bounce. Megan responded with a great par on 15 after a poor 2nd shot but hit it close in 3 and holed out to go back to 2 up. 16 was halved and on 17 Megan found the bunker whilst Eilidh found the heart of the green. A great bunker shot gave her a chance and when her opponent just failed to hole her putt Megan secured a great victory with a tremendous hole out from 15ft.
The afternoon final was against Ailsa Brannock of Castle Douglas but this time Megan was giving 19 shots !!!! She found herself 1 up after 2 with a par and lost 3 and 4 where she was giving 2 shots. on the 6th Megan hit her tee shot into 2ft and Ailsa also found the green and nearly holed her second leaving Megan a 2ft putt for a half - hard school but she holed her birdie putt. The 8th was lost to a net 3 but 10 saw the match all square again. Unfortunately giving so many shots were beginning to take there toll and 11, 12 and 15 were lost and although Megan halved 16 it was not enough and Ailsa won.
I am very proud of Megan's performance over the 3 days and she can take huge positives from her result and finishing 2nd is something she should be very proud of especially giving away 19 shots.

MEGAN FLIES THE FLAG FOR STRATHMORE

Great day for Megan competing in the last 16 of the Scottish Girls under 18 Ansley Reid match play hosted by Alyth starting with a terrific 5&3 win in round 1 against Shannon Pook of Auchterarder. Dawn and I caught up with her quarter final match against Lauren Gilbert of Largs on the 9th green to find her 2 down but a great putt saw her pull it back to 1. A superb birdie on 10 brought her all square and a great par on 11 took her into a the lead. 12 and 13 were halved in pars, 14 was lost to level the match but after a long drive on 15 a superb iron into a tight pin position lead to an easy 4 and her lead was restored. With a shot on 16 a par was good enough to be dormie. Lauren was not finished and nearly holed her tee shot on 17 and pulled it back to 1 down. Megan hit a great drive down 18 and although her 2nd shot was not her best it found the middle of the green and with her opponent missing the putting surface and then running her pitch well past the hole it left Megan with 2 putts to win and she ran her approach putt up quite close and when Lauren missed her putt it allowed Megan the easiest of ways to make the semi finals but true to form she holed out to win 2 up. A 2 over par back 9 was very impressive and I would not want to be Eilidh Crawford of Kingsfield who will be giving Megan 5 shots in tomorrow's semi final.
This was one of the most impressive displays of controlled golf I have witnessed from any of our juniors     and I wish Megan her all the best for the semi final.
Kirsty who was playing Jillian Farrell - Cardross in the Scratch match play unfortunately lost out 4&3 in round 1 and is now taking some time off to allow her tendinitis injury to recover.

GIRL POWER

Congratulations to Kirsty who qualified for the last 16 of the scratch Scottish under 18 close Championship match play at Alyth today. Megan also qualified to the last 16 Ansley Reid handicap section and our best wishes go to both girls. Amy unfortunately missed out on making it a full house. Megan also joined the 70's club shooting a second round 79 on the extended Alyth course - brilliant score and look forward to tomorrow. Go the girls !!!!

Monday 13 July 2015

GOOD LUCK GIRLS

Best wishes to Kirsty, Megan and Amy who play at Alyth tomorrow in the Scottish under 18's and with the top 16 qualifying to the scratch and the next 16 going into the handicap I have high hopes for all 3.

CHAMPIONSHIP DAY RESULTS

Congratulations to ladies champion Kirsty Brodie, Junior scratch winner Alex Simpson and Handicap winner Amy Mitchell. Great matches and commiserations to Dawn, Brad and Megan who gave them all a match. I am very proud of all our juniors and the level of golf they are playing is amazing. I along with many others was disappointed in the setting up of the course which was ridiculous, every pin position was either on a slope, on a crown, on a ridge, behind a hump or a combination of all 4 !!!!!!!!!!  I have been a member for 20 years and in that time I have never seen the course set up so stupidly. Even visitors who were paying green fees were complaining. Questions have to be asked ????

Friday 10 July 2015

GOOD LUCK

Good luck to all all our finalist tomorrow. Play well and remember in a final you have both done well to get there but one of you will be a runner up and give credit to your opponent who has on the day played better golf. Do yourselves proud and play your best and at the end of the day the best player on the day will win.

FINALIST DECIDED

Alex Simpson who won his semi final against Tod Bannerman yesterday will face Brad Bannerman in the scratch final at 1pm. Both boys are in tremendous form and I expect a birdie fest - this potentially could be the lowest scoring final ever. 15 minutes later Amy Mitchell who today won her semi final against Conor Hughes will face Megan Ashley in the handicap final which again should be a very close with both girls playing some great golf. Good luck to all 4 and I look forward to presenting the trophies to the worthy winners.
Amy and Conor before today's semi final.

FALDO SERIES

Brad moved up one spot and finished 12th in the under 18 section. Amy finished 7th in the under 16 and Michael finished 4th equal in the under 21's.

Tuesday 7 July 2015

FALDO SERIES

Mixed fortunes for Brad and Amy at the Faldo Series being played at the Dukes, Brad after 2 rounds sits tied 13th in the under 18 section only 5 shots behind the leader. Amy has struggled with the greens and is well down the field. Michael Brodie sits joint 1st in the under 21 section. Good luck tomorrow.

FIRST NEW HANDICAP OF THE SEASON

Flora McGregor becomes our first junior of 2015 to gain a Congu club handicap. Well done on achieving a handicap of 54 and look forward to seeing how quick you can take a few strokes off and I am sure you will enjoy playing in the competitions.

SUPERB - YET ANOTHER STRATHMORE CHAMPION

Congratulations to Alex Simpson who not only today become the Perth and Kinross under 16 Champion but also won the the Summer Meeting with a fantastic gross 73. Brad Bannerman with a 74 made it a magnificent Strathmore 1-2. Alex who has over the last 2 years been the under 14 Champion made the step up in age categories and will be eager to defend his new title next year.
Brilliant result !!!

HIGHS AND LOWS

Kirsty Brodie played her way into the Ladies Club Championship final with a 19th hole win over Megan Ashley. Unfortunately her forearm injury has been diagnosed as tendinitis and she has had to withdraw from all of next week events and could be out of action for up to 6 weeks as complete rest is the only cure. She is obviously gutted and we all wish her a speedy recovery.
Alex Simpson should be able to take huge positives from his tied 38th in the Scottish under 16's at Arbroath and I believe he can now take his game to the next level in the knowledge he can compete at with his elders and time is on his side.
Accompanied Flora McGregor for 18 holes tonight and was very impressed, great off the tee, very consistant on the fairway but pitching, chipping and putting requires more practice and I see her very soon having a full Congu handicap and look forward to seeing how quickly she can progress.
