ANOTHER RECORD FOR STRATHMORE GIRLS

The Jamboree (3 day event between the Ladies of Norther Counties, Aberdeenshire, Angus and P&K) this year will see Kirsty and Megan (making her debut) representing P&K and this will make history with 2 juniors from the same club in the team of 8 and to top it all Amy is also included as a travelling reserve and with the 3 girls being involved at Nairn it is unprecedented. If they all stay amateur they could be the backbone of the P&K ladies team for years to come and with Kirsten and Flora showing so much promise who knows how many Strathmore girls could be involved in future years ???

IT ONLY GETS BETTER

Not only did Kirsty and Megan win the Scratch and Handicap sections but after receiving the full results tonight Strathmore took the first 3 Scratch places - Kirsty, Megan and Amy and the first 4 Handicap places - Kirsty, Megan, Amy and Kirsten. How brilliant is that.

DOUBLE DELIGHT

Pitlochry hosted the Perth & Kinross Girls Championship but it was Strathmore's Girls who took the honours with Kirsty shooting a 2 over par gross 74 to become Scratch Champion and Megan shooting a nett 74 to be the Handicap Champion. What a fantastic result . Well done girls !!

100% RECORD REMAINS INTACT

Tonight we hosted Crieff and am delighted that our Scratch League team continued their winning streak with a convincing win over Crieff. Alex won the first 3 holes but after a great up and down on 4 for a half, lost 5,6,7 & 8 to go 1 down. He won 9 to square the match and was 1 up going down 16 where he knocked his utility wood just over the back of 16 before securing the birdie to go dormie and a half on 17 was enough. Kirsty lost the first 2 holes but was all square after 4. By 9 she was 4 up and finished her match 7&5. Megan was ahead early and held her lead all the way and was never behind, her putting tonight was very impressive and her 4&3 victory was secured with a superb birdie on 15.
Earlier on today I had the pleasure of playing with Alex and Kirsty and am not surprised by tonight's results. Both have become exceptional players and have a confidence in the way they approach the game.
Great to see Amy and James also out playing tonight.

LATEST BENEFIT TO JUNIORS LAUNCHED

With the incredible generosity of members and others we find ourselves in a position where we can now offer a unique putter exchange scheme at no cost to our juniors to allow them to fulfill their potential. Anyone who is looking for a new putter instead of buying one can swap their old putter for one of the 20 plus we have in stock including Odyssey, Fazer, 2 ball, 3 ball and variable grip sizes. We will also hold their old putter for a minimum of 2 weeks to allow the player to decide if the swap was in their best interest so they can either opt for another swap or take their old putter back.

P&K SEMI FINAL

Unfortunately Megan lost out to Laura Walker 2&1 in the semi final but should be very proud of her achievements this week and can take all the positives forward into the rest of the season.

JUNIOR SCOTTISH OPEN

Early start but it was definitely worth it. Kieran, Flora, Kirsten and myself headed off to Dunnikier Golf Club in Kirkcaldy. We made our way to the 15th tee for a shot gun start and the format was a better ball with only 1 nett score to count on each hole. We parred 15 and 16 and got our first birdie on 17 but gave it back on 18. We regrouped on the 1st tee and started a great run which saw us out in 28 including 2 nett 1's Flora was 1st with a near hole in one on the 3rd when her ball finished less than an inch behind the hole. From the tee for a moment we thought it was in. Then on the nearest the pin hole Kirsten hit it to within a couple of feet and holed out for another 2 nett 1. Our combined score for the 4 par 3's was 6 - 2 nett 1's and 2 nett 2's. We finished the round 14 under on 58 which we thought was a decent score. Kirsten did win the nearest the pin prize but our 58 was 8 behind the winning score of 50. It was a very well organised tournament and great fun to play in and the course was in great condition especially the greens. We enjoyed it so much I think we will have another go at one of the other qualifiers.
You can't see Flora's ball because it's behind the pin

WHAT A START TO WHAT COULD BE A FANTASTIC WEEKEND

Tonight three Strathmore players made their match play debuts against a very strong Alyth team (made up of four Kirriemuir and one Blairgowrie member) Amy led the team out and won her match 6&5. Kirsten won 4&3. James, Kieran and Flora were the newbies and James won his match 4&3, Kieran found things a bit tougher and lost out 6&5 but will learn from the experience and last out was Flora who found herself 3 down after 3 but fought back to be 1 up at the turn and 3 up through 11 then lost 3 in a row to go all square before winning 15 and was still 1 up going up 18 and losing the last she secured a great half. We now host Kinross in a straight knock out in the Quarter finals and after watching this team perform I am very confident of a semi final place.
The night before Alex and I found giving 10 & 23 shots just a bit too much to give away in the Gents four ball and after being 3 down through 5 with our opponents 4 under nett. I birdied 6 to get one back and when Alex won 15 we were all square but lost 16 to another nett birdie and halved the last 2 holes to lose one down.
Tomorrow Kieran, Flora, Kirsten and myself have an early start as we head off to Dunnikier Golf Club, Kirkcaldy to compete in the Scottish Junior Open which is a team event and should be great fun to compete in and will give our Juniors a taste of playing in a National competition.
At Auchterarder Megan, Kirsty and Amy join Dawn in the P&K Ladies last 16 match play Championship and it will be an exciting morning as if they all win, Megan and Dawn and Kirsty and Amy will face each other in the afternoon quarter finals !!! Then on Sunday they have the semi final and final and fingers crossed.

9TH NEW MEMBER CHECKS IN

Huge welcome to Charlie Kynoch who today became our 9th new member of 2017.

ANOTHER RECORD SET !!!

Pam Drysdale confirmed today that this is the first time in P&K Ladies history that 3 junior girls from the same club have qualified in the same year to the last 16 of the match play knock outs. Take a bow Megan, Kirsty and Amy.

PERTH AND KINROSS LADIES

Today's qualifier saw all 3 Strathmore girls qualify for the weekend match play along with Dawn giving Strathmore 4 chances. Megan qualified 2nd with a gross 73 and reduced her handicap back to 5, Kirsty was 4th seed with a 74, Dawn 10th and Amy 12th with an 84. Unfortunately if the all win their 1st round matches Megan would play Dawn and Kirsty would play Amy. Good luck to you all and hopefully we will see 2 of you progress to Sunday's semi finals.

SCOTTISH JUNIOR TOUR

Congratulations to Amy who started round 2 with an eagle 3 and was only 2 over par through 13 but she was disappointed with her last 5 holes and finished 3rd in the under 16 girls event. She can be very happy with the result which will give her confidence a huge boost going into the rest of the season.

GENTS KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS

Alex and I found ourselves giving away 13 shots tonight which we knew was going to be tough. We shot a level par 72, including 2 birdies and an eagle and we were 1 up going up the last after winning 15 with a birdie and Alex chipping in for a par on 16. We had fun tonight and I think Alex's season is now ready to take off and I can't wait for our next match as he is a pleasure to partner and we enjoy each other's company. Highlights tonight was Alex's hybrid tee shot on 3 to 20ft, my 5 iron which set up the eagle putt on 5, Alex's hybrid to the edge of the 15th and my pitch from there to the back pin position which was conceded for a 3.

LATEST NEWS

Huge thanks to Craig Muir who donated a trolley and bag to our scheme. Bumped into past junior member Cory Miller who I remember giving a personal reference when he applied to Elmwood College on a green keepers course a few years ago and was delighted to hear that not only did he complete the course but is now employed at Elmwood as a groundsman which includes looking after the golf course as well. That makes 5 of our past juniors who are now employed in the Golf Industry in one form or another. Below is Cory 2nd from left in the winning Strathmore Red Cross Team 25/9/11

1ST CERTIFICATE AWARDED

Blair Hockley receiving his 1st Certificate won't be long before he gets his 2nd and his fun handicap !! Another great prospect from the Strathmore coaching system.

100% RECORD STILL INTACT

Strathmore v Muckhart , looked like our 100% record was in danger tonight when Alex found himself 3 down after 3 and he was still 2 down at the turn but a 3 iron to 10ft on 10 started his fight back and with a birdie on 15 he was 1 up with 3 to play and won 16 to go dormie and halved 17 to close out his match. Kirsty was 4 up through 5 and kept that margin and won 4&3. Megan also went ahead early and was 2 up at the turn and also finished her match 4&3. Great result tonight with some very good play and Megan nearly holed her tee shot on 6 and finished 6 inches from the pin. Next up we host Crieff.

Tonight Alex on the first hit his utility wood off the tee left himself 190 to the pin, he was 120 to the back  of the bunker on the hill so wanted to land it 130 and let it run down, took his 50% wedge played it exactly to where he wanted the ball took a huge bounce of the slope and he landed in the ditch at the back of the green !!!

Also huge thanks to Alison McLaren who donated a bag and trolley, and to Annette Grewar who added 3 bags and numerous clubs to our hire scheme.

UPDATE FROM SATURDAY

Blair Hockley received his 1st Certificate and Fergus Williamson will receive his next week after an easy 4 and 5. Things are looking great with so many players showing so much potential but we need to get them out playing more often. With the nights stretching get yourselves up to the course and let the juniors put their coaching to good use. Megan and Amy played for P&K ladies and Kirsten played for the girls against Fife at Gleneagles and helped them to a draw.

BELL TROPHY 1ST LEG

Drawn away to Alyth tonight our team arrived in high spirits and raring to go. Unfortunately 2 members of their team called off due to glandular fever and suspected glandular fever. So we started the match 2 up. With Megan, Amy and Kirsten it was now a girls team against the boys from Alyth and all three girls were outstanding winning 6&5, 3&2 and 3&1. Over the years I have watched so many great Strathmore performances and this ranks up with the best of them. All 3 were very consistant off the tee and if they keep up these standards I envisage great seasons for them. James and Kieran played a friendly match against each other and both enjoyed the experience and once they got past the first 5 holes enjoyed the course. With a 5 game lead the return leg should be a formality but until we have one point on the board the job is not done.

CAPTAINS DRIVE IN

The date of the Captains Drive In has been changed and I will post a new date after it has been confirmed.
