STRATHMORE SCHOLARSHIPS

Strathmore Golf Centre this week announced their commitment to the future by enhancing their already major investment in the junior section by creating annual scholarships available to qualifying juniors. There will be three scholarships awarded this year.

The scholarship will consist of:

• Tokens for practice balls equating to £40 per month

• 6 x ½ hour lessons with either Andy Lamb or Gareth Couzins, the PGA Professionals attached to Strathmore Golf Centre

The scholarship will be awarded to juniors who meet the following qualifying criteria:

• Scholars must be Home Players.

• Scholars must have represented Strathmore at Junior Scratch League and continue to make themselves available for selection.

• Scholars must represent Strathmore at County and/or National events.

• Scholars must have a Congu Handicap of 18 or less. The selection will be done in Handicap order.

Strathmore Golf Centre already commits £3,000 per annum to provide coaching open to all juniors. With over 70 juniors Strathmore has a vibrant and growing junior section and the opportunity this scholarship provides will increase the section’s profile and attract new juniors who are the lifeblood of the future of the Centre and Strathmore Golf Club.

The very first three Juniors to be awarded this scholarship is Allan Easton, Hannah Robb and Rory Tinker. They are pictured above with David Norman.

We would like to thank Strathmore Golf Centre for this massive committment and we know that the section will make full use of the award and go from strength to strength.

It all began on Saturday when our juniors competed in the Strathmore Juniors Club Championship Qualifier (1) and Junior Captain Rory Tinker returned an excellent scratch 74 closely followed by defending champion Allan Easton on 75. The handicap scoring was just as impressive causing the boys CSS to reduce to 70. Girls CSS 72 Frankie Henvey topped the leader board with a brilliant nett 64 followed by Michael Brodie on 65, Rory Tinker 67, Frankie Moran 69, Hannah Robb 70 and John McKenna 70.

A WEEKEND OF GREAT GOLF FOR STRATHMORE JUNIORS

The weekend kicked of with the Junior Summer League Card three and the scoring was again very good. Hannah Robb reduced her handicap with a scratch 81 nett 70 winning the girls section. The boys section was closely fought with a better inward half seeing Alex Simpson 97 (24) 73 pipping Callum Ewen 102 (29) 73 Well done all who took part.

Sunday Morning saw Junior Captain Rory Tinker play in the P&K Boys Strokeplay/Matchplay Championship at Crieff. Rory played his way last week into the last 16 matchplay stages and won his morning match on the 18th green. Unfortunately Rory lost in the afternoon quarter final 2&1 after a great display of golf. A brilliant achievement for Rory to reach the final 8 players.

Hannah Robb and Emily Aird were selected to represent P&K against Stirling and Clackmannanshire at Gleneagles and were also paired together on the day in a Greensome match. Hannah and Emily did the county proud by winning their match 1up.

The Hamish McTavish Cup was played over Leitfie on Sunday morning and the winner on the day was Frankie Moran with a 76 (24) 52 in second place was Alex Simpson 75 (18) 57 followed the title holder Michael Brodie 69 (9) 60. Well done Frankie.

Leaving Golf for just a second, our congratulations go to Micheal Brodie who representing Angus County won the Inter-Divisional Cricket event which was played at Arbroath on Saturday.

All in all another great weekend for our juniors and this is only April!!

Results from Under 14 Coaching Medal at Blairgowrie on Sunday 11/04/2010

Strathmore were represented by 6 boys at yesterdays event held in brilliant sunshine. Josh McKenna for the second time this weekend was Strathmore's "player of the day"
When you look at the results on the P&K Website Junior Section the Scratch is calculated on Scratch Stableford points which means you get
1 point for a bogey
2 points for a par
3 points for a birdie
4points for an eagle
Using this format Josh finished 4th scratch (26 points) and 6th nett beating last years defending champion Brad Bannerman who finished 8th scratch (22 points) and 9th nett.

RORY SHINES AT CRIEFF

Junior Captain Rory Tinker playing in the under 18 Perth and Kinross County Boys Strokeplay Championship at Crieff returned a fantastic three over par round of 74 finishing 8th in the tournament. Congratualtions Rory.

This event also catapults Rory into the Matchplay stages next Sunday when the top 16 players fight it out to progress to the semi final stages. Fellow member Allan Easton also took part but unfortunatley did not make it to the Matchplay stages.

Good Luck Rory.
HANNAH BOUNCES BACK

After the disappointment of the Under 16's tournament this week Hannah bounced back with a win at the P&K Ladies County Golf Association Junior and Team player day at Strathmore today, Hannah and her partner Gillian Wallace from Glenisla walked off with the scratch prize following an impressive greensome score of 76.

Well done Hannah from one Junior Committee member who played today as a county team player with a junior and was pipped by you and your parnter today by a better inward half!!

Well done.
JUNIORS DO IT AGAIN!

The 2nd round of the Junior Summer League on Rannaleroch took place today and the players above once again excelled themselves. Josh McKenna was the star of the show with a fantastic scratch 81 off the white tees. Josh was heading for a sub 80 round but unfortunatley three putted the last. This scratch score led to a brilliant nett 64 and returned not only the lowest gross but also the lowest nett too. Josh however was not the only junior to return a nett 64, Frankie Henvey also posted a 64 but was pipped by virtue of a better inward half by Josh.

Out of the 7 boys playing today 5 had handicap reductions. Very impressive indeed and especially so early in the season.

Below is the Full Restults

Junior Summer League CSS 71, Scratch
Josh McKenna 81,

Hannah Robb falls foul of her natural exuburance.
Today Hannah learned a harsh lesson. Last night after her opening round Hannah and 2 other girls decided to play 16, 17 and 18 for fun and to pass a bit of time. This was done in total innocence, but to their cost they discovered today that as this was a stroke play competition over 2 days and therefore practice on the course is not allowed (Rule 7-1) all 3 girls were disqualified and they will never make the same mistake again. This is a learning curve for everybody so get yourselves a rule book and make yourselves aware of all the rules!
Emily Aird finishes her 2nd round by improving on yesterdays score by 3 shots returning an 82 to add to her 85 giving her a total of 167. Well done.
Front nine news from SLGA Under 16 Open
Hannah Robb after a bad start has reached the turn in 41 (8-5-5-3-4-3-4-4-5) and has started the back nine 4-4-5 to continue her great run of form. Emily Aird was out in 40 (5-4-5-4-6-4-4-4-4) and is just starting her back nine. Good Luck to both as they continue their rounds.

Junior Captain's Day
This Sundays Junior Captain's Day has been postponed and will be re scheduled later in the Season. This is due mainly to so many of our players are taking part in County Events and the Committee felt it would be better to wait for a clear weekend to allow as many to play as possible.
First Fun Handicap for Megan
Megan Ashley who only joined the Club at the beginning of this season, and having gained her Level 1 & 2 Certificates and has now achieved her Fun Handicap of 54 which will enable her to compete in all Junior Leitfie Competitions including the Summer and Winter Leagues. Unfortunatley Allan lost 3&2 at West Kilbride but he played well and will take the positives into the rest of his season. I know Allan will bounce back and look forward to seeing his progress throughout the rest of the year.
