FIRST SIX YEAR OLD COMPLETES
CARD FOR HANDICAP

Matthew Sime is Strathmore Golf Club's first ever six year old who has completed a card on the Rannaleroch course for handicap purposes.

David Norman of Strathmore Golf Centre marked this mile stone with a Certificate showing details of his hole by hole score. This was presented to Matthew last night by Junior Convenor Iain Butchart who accompanied Matthew during his round and marked the card.

Well done Matthew and we are all confident you will have your handicap in place before your 7th birthday in August.

MICHAEL SHINES AT OPENS

Michael Brodie has performed brilliantly away from home at Junior Opens and has been rewarded this week with winning vouchers from both Craigiehill and Auchterarder.

Micheal returned a scratch 77 nett 65 at Craigiehill winning first prize in the handicap section 1-14 and at Auchterarder he returned an 80 nett 68 and won 2nd place in the same handicap section.

10 YEAR OLD ALEX SIMPSON FINISHES 2nd PIPPED BY 1 SHOT IN STEPHENS OF PERTH (HANDICAP TROPHY)
Alex Simpson playing in the 3 Perth Junior Opens gave his future golfing aspirations a huge boost by finishing 2nd with a 205 nett total. Playing Murrayshall Alex returned a 87 (22) 65 and followed this up with a 89 (21) 68 at King James VI and took a 4 stroke lead into the final event at Craigie Hill where his 92 (20) 72 just failed to win him the Trophy finishing runner up to last years winner David Morrison (Dunning)
What a brilliant result for Alex who also took 9th place in the Scratch section. Competing and finishing in the top ten at these events helps to get players noticed by Perth and Kinross County convenors who decide on coaching for the following year. SCOTISH LADIES JUNIOR OPEN STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

AMAZING MATTHEW

Last night I invited 6 year old Matthew Sime to play his first ever 18 holes on the Ranneleroch Course to see if he was ready to move up from Leitfie and could manage to play 18. We teed off using the Gents White Medal tees at 6.30pm and Matthew hit his first drive straight up the middle carrying it onto the fairway and using my GPS I measured it as 146yds, he then proceeded to hit 3 x 3 woods to be 5yds short of the green, he then pitched on and 2 putted to record an opening 7. Before we teed off I had told Matthew we would use the par +3 which if he was to play level with, would mean he could get the maximum Congu Junior Club handicap of 54. So after the first hole using the par 5+3 Matthews 7 was 1 under. Hitting the 2nd green in 3 he 3 putted for a six to go 2 under. And after 4 holes was 4 under. Clearing the pond Matthew was unlucky to catch the rough along the fence with his second shot but managed to get the ball back into play and despite taking a 10 was still 2 under. A 5 iron short of the 6th green and a pitch to 3ft and a single putt led to Matthews first ever par on the Rannaleroch and got him back to 5 under. A putt from off the green for a 6 at the 9th gave him a front nine of 58 and kept him at 5 under.
Kirsty and Kate Brodie came out to give Matthew some encouragement on the 10th tee where he again hit an excellent drive down the middle (151yds) only to bunker his approach shot, unfazed Matthew hit his bunker shot to within 1ft to secure his second par and go to 8 under. This led to a very steady run where after 16 holes Matthew was 15 under. On the 17th a drive and an 8 iron and a 12ft single putt led to the third par of the round and going to the 18th tee 18 under I realised Matthew had only hit 42 shots on the back nine and on being just off the front of the 18th green in 6 overhit his pitch and took a 10 for a back nine of 52. Our round took just under 3 hours and Matthew proved to me that not only was he able to play 18 but to an fantastic standard remembering he is still only 6 !!!!
Matthews Card
7-6-6-5-10-3-7-8-6=58 4-6-7-4-6-5-7-3-10=52 58+52=110
Putts
2-3-2-2-3-1-2-3-0=18 1-2-1-2-1-1-3-1-3=15 18+15=33
Matthew would be allocated a CONGU Junior Club Handicap of 33 (110-71-6) (see clause1.2 below) on this card requiring to lose only 5 further shots to be allocated a full CONHU Handicap. AMAZING
Clause 1.2 Any score more than 2 over par at any hole shall be amended to 2 over par. (The maximum reduction under this clause shall be 6 strokes per round.)

Good Luck Hannah!
UNLIKE THE WEATHER SUMMER LEAGUE HOTS UP
Megan Ashley has a 4 shot lead over Matthew Sime and with both their fun handicaps having been reduced (from 54 to 37 for Megan and from 17 to 10 for Matthew) both players improvements have been tremendous reflecting in Megans average over the best ten cards being nett 27.9 (1.1 below par) and Matthews being 28.3 (0.7 below par)
Alex Simpson and Matthew Wiggins have played 6 cards, Finn Morrison 5, Lewis MacLeod and Cormac Sharpe 4, Brad and Tod Bannerman 3, Benjamin Fischer 2 with Euan Robb,Fiona Murray and Kirsty Brodie 1 each.
Matthews best card is a gross 33 only 4 over par. The Summer League runs to Saturday the 25th September so there is still plenty of time to get the 10 cards required to complete the competition so get out there and see if anyone can catch either of the leaders.

JUNIOR BELL TROPHY
Josh McKenna led out the team and took an early lead against Connor Boylan going 3 up after 3 holes and despite Connor attempts to come back Josh held on to win 2 up.
Michael Brodie met the big hitting David Thoms who had a eagle putt on the 1st and followed that up by driving the 3rd green for his 2nd eagle putt in 3 holes. Michael hung in well but lost 4&3.
John McKenna played against last years opponent Ian Christie who played very steady golf and John lost out 5&4.
Brad Bannerman had a close match with Richard Sorokaniuk and took a 2 hole lead onto the 16th tee. Richard won 16 and with 17 being halved Brad took a one hole lead up 18 where Richard could only half the hole and Brad squared the match by winning one up.
All the attention then switched to the deciding tie in which 10 year old Alex Simpson was playing Jack Christie. Alex was 2 down at the turn and with Jack bunkering his tee shot on 10 things were looking better only for Jack to hit his bunker shot to a foot and hole the putt to go 3 up. Alex holed out for a 4 and then won the next 4 holes with pars to take a 1 hole lead. Jack won 15 & 16 with pars and Alex won 17 to square the tie and match. Alex hit 3 good shots to be within 80 yds of the green Jack hit his 3rd shot just off the back of the green. With all still to play for Alex bit a great approach to within 5ft only to see Jack chip his shot to 3ft. Alex hit his putt and it looked in all the way only to lip out leaving Jack his putt for the win and to take Alyth into the semi finals for the 2nd year running. Jack held his nerve and holed the putt.
I am very proud of team spirit shown by the players and am sure these match play situations will help develop both their playing and social skills.
HANNAH PLAYS FIRST ROUND AT EYEMOUTH
Hannah Robb played her first round of the Scottish Girls Championship at Eyemouth today and did herself proud with a very respectable 88. Tough condition raised the CSS to 75. Hannah will take to the tee again tomorrow at 10am.
Good luck from all the Junior Section.

JUNIOR BELL QUARTER FINAL
Tuesday night see our team play Alyth at Strathmore in an eagerly awaited tie and the team are very much up for revenge against the team who defeated Strathmore at the same stage of last years competition. I know the players can't wait and am sure they don't need any further encouragement and after their performance against Muthill they should fear no team either home or away.
BEST WISHES FROM ALL THE SECTION TO HANNAH ROBB WHO COMPETES AT EYEMOUTH IN THE SCOTTISH GIRLS CLOSE CHAMPIONSHIP STARTING TOMORROW

6 YEAR OLD MATTHEW SIME CLEARS WATER ON THE 5TH HOLE FROM THE WHITE TEES AT THE FIRST ATTEMPT
Last night I accompanied Matthew on an ability assessment on Rannaleroch. Before climbing to the 5th White Medal Tee, Matthews mum Dawn said she didn't think he would be able to carry the water so we took a 5 iron and 3 wood up to play down to the Yellow & Red tee area. Matthew hit an easy 5 iron onto the tee and it was obvious his 3 wood would be far too much. As Matthew still had a ball with him he decided to have a go clearing the hazard down the left hand side. He played a good shot which hit into the pond side trees but we did not see it finish. Still eager to see if he could clear the hazard Mum was dispatched to bring the driver. Matthew teed it up and hit a majestic drive which sailed over the hazard and the pond side trees and landed a few yards short of the road. We went down and found his first ball was also on "terrra firma" (dry ground) and had carried the pond. Matthew was obviously delighted. He then proceeded to hit 2 very good 3 woods which left him with a shot to the green. Matthew hit a great approach which ran onto the green leaving him a 25ft putt uphill for his par. He started his putt outside the left and read the putt very well and with a few feet to go it looked like the ball was heading for the bottom of the cup only to run out of pace and finish 6 inches short. A magnificent 6 and remembering this hole is stroke index1 and Matthew is still only 6 years of age a great achievement for someone so young and so enthusiastic. So much so that walking off one tee he asked what the current Ranneleroch Course Record was, obviously he has his sights set quite high. Matthews scores for the 4th, 5th and 6th holes were 4/6/4

The Summer League card from yesterday had to be abandoned due to THUNDER AND LIGHTENING !!!!!!

Sorry for the delay in photo of the Texas Scramble on the Leitfie course, congratulations to the winning team, who consist of Kirsty Brodie, Josh Eddington and Cormac Sharpe, who came in with 30 points. Well done to everyone who came to this competition, great day and a great turn out.

FINALS DAY RESULTS
Both of todays finals went to the 18th hole. Rory Tinker became Scratch Junior Club Champion by winning on the last hole from Hannah Robb,

the match saw Rory going 3 up through 10 only for Hannah to fight back and square the match on 15 and when Hannah birdied 16 to take a 1 hole lead to the 17th tee it looked like the match would finish there but Rory managed to win 17 and 18 to become the 2010 Champion.

Frankie Moran and Josh McKenna also had a very close match and Josh took a 1 hole lead down the 16th but Frankie used his strokes to his advantage and took a 1 hole lead to the last tee and won the 18th to become the 2010 Handicap Champion.
I would like to congratulate all 4 players on their excellent play and behaviour on the course and all were a credit to the Junior Section.

Below are photos of both pairs of finalists.

Tonight Josh playing in the Gents Summer League (3) topped the leader board with a gross 75 nett 63. What a week for Josh and he still has Saturday's Junior handicap final to compete in. Josh's handicap will have dropped 2 shots from 12 to 10, well done.
