LET'S MAKE 2016 THE BEST YEAR YET

We go into 2016 in great shape. We have one of youngest yet strongest Scratch League squads in P&K and I see no reason why we can't win it again and become only the 3rd club to win it 3 times. Alex, Kirsty, Tod, Amy and Megan have all been working hard on their games during the winter and I look forward to seeing how they all progress next season. We also have a number of promising players coming through and I have high expectations for many of them.
I wish you all a very merry Xmas and can't wait for 2016.

P&K COUNTY PRIZE GIVING

Unfortunately Brad Bannerman and Megan Ashley were not available to attend today's event but I had the pleasure of joining Strathmore's 3 Scottish Academy players to watch them pick up their Trophies. Well done to Alex Simpson, Kirsty Brodie and Amy Mitchell. So proud of you all.

2015 PRIZE GIVING

Huge thank you to the magnificent 7 who turned up for the Texas Scramble. Junior captain Tod Bannerman was supported by his vice captain Conor Hughes and along with Flora McGregor and myself we took on Junior Club Champion Alex Simpson, handicap Champion Amy Mitchell, James Bonar and Dominika Ingliska. David Norman was kind enough to allow us to use the winter course on Rannaleroch and we played the front 9. Amazingly our score were tied even after count back last 6, 3 and 1, so a draw was agreed. The players also would like to thank David and the centre for the food which helped heat them up after the game.
The Agm went well with Dawn having to finish my speech after I got a wee bit emotional (not for the first time) Every year our players exceed my expectations and I so proud of everything they achieve and this year was special as Alex became our first International team winner and Brad, Alex and Kirsty were magnificent in wining the Scratch League and proving me right that we have the best juniors in the County. With so many other successes 2015 was a great year and I can't wait to see what 2016 brings.

Tod won both President Cup and Hamish McTavish

Amy won the Summer League and the Handicap Championship

Alex won the Junior Club Championship

LAST 2 EVENTS AND RUNNERS UP IN BOTH

Brad Bannerman finished 2nd in his final junior event at the Race to Kingsbarns, he is now at University in Glasgow and our best wishes go to him both for his golf and studies. Megan Ashley and Amy Mitchell finished 2nd in the foursomes at Pitlochry, another great result, well done girls

SO CLOSE

Kirsty Brodie competing in the Junior Champion of Champions just missed out by one shot from becoming Strathmore's first scratch National title holder. A superb 74 was only beaten by a 73 from Fiona Liddell. What a great score by Kirsty and so unlucky to be pipped by such a small margin. Kirsty has had a great finish to the season and also achieved 12th position in the Girls Order of Merit. These results will give her a lot of confidence going into next season. Well done Kirsty !!!!

JUST WHEN I THOUGHT THE WEEKEND COULDN'T GET BETTER IT HAS

I have just had a message from Kirsty Brodie to let me know she won the P&K Ladies Champion of Champions at Blairgowrie. What a tremendous result !! And what a great weekend for Strathmore Juniors !!! So happy for Kirsty. The list of achievements just get bigger and better.

SCRATCH LEAGUE FINAL

Strathmore juniors Scratch League team become P&K Champions for the 2nd time. Having reached the final for the 4th time in 5 years yesterday's team of Brad Bannerman, Alex Simpson and Kirsty Brodie pulled off a remarkable win. The matches got off to a mixed start with only Brad winning the 1st. Kirsty lost and Alex found himself 2 down after 2. I was thinking this isn't going to plan!!! But my faith was restored when Alex went on a 4 hole winning run and Kirsty after squaring her match produced a great birdie on the 4th to go 1 up. The further the final went the bigger the leads were stretched. Alex was 1st to get a point on the board in style by eagleing the 14th. A tremendous 4 iron was through the back of the green on the long par 5 but when he chipped in for a 3 he closed it out 5&4. Kirsty was next with an even more impressive 6&5 win and it was left to Brad to close it out on 16 being dormie which he duly did winning 3&2. I am so proud of what these youngsters have achieved over the years and they confirmed what I having been telling anyone who was willing to listen that they are the best Team in P&K and now we have the Trophy to prove it.

GENTS FOUR BALL FINAL

In atrocious conditions Alex and I played Brad and Billy McGregor today. The 1st was halved, we won the 2nd, halved the 3rd, lost the 4th, won the 5th with a birdie, won the 6th with another birdie, won the 7th, halved 8,9,10,11, won 12 lost 13 won 14 and halved 15 with birdies. Going down 16 we were dormie and the hole was conceded making us Gents Champions 2015 with the chance to do a unique double when we play in the foursomes final later in the month. Maybe some of the Allianz St Andrews experience stayed with us !!

DOUBLE DELIGHT

Joshua and Finlay receive their certificates. Well done boys

CLUB HIRE SCHEMES LATEST MEMBER

I am so proud of how this unique idea I had has taken off. Year 1 we had 2 players taking advantage of the scheme, year 2 - 4 players and this year 9. Absolutely amazing and this can only help our juniors develop using correctly sized clubs. Caitlen Sellen today became our latest recruit.

KIRSTY DOES THE DOUBLE

Following on from last years win in the Junior Girls at the Alfred Dunhill Schools Golf Challenge Kirsty completed the double by winning the Senior Girls at the Kittocks, Fairmont. Players from Fife, Dundee and Angus take part and the winners are invited to receive their prizes on the final day of the Dunhill at St Andrews on Sunday October the 5th. Great win and another Strathmore sucess.

P&K BOYS WIN GARY HARVEY TROPHY

Congratulations to Brad (3 wins) and Alex (2 wins) who helped P&K beat all 3 counties - Angus, Clackmannan and Fife in the annual under 18 event hosted by Alloa Golf Club. Great result for the County.

70's CLUB HAS A NEW MEMBER

Using a 6 iron on the 4th hole Megan Ashley had her 1st hole in one !!! This helped her to become the latest player to join the 70's club with a great score of 79 and in doing so reduced her handicap to 9.8 which is one step closer to single figures. So pleased for her because she puts so much practice time in and it is definitely paying dividends.

Joshua Davies and Finlay McCoshim became our latest 2nd certificate juniors with scores of 28 & 29 very impressive as Josh included a lost ball and Finlay a 10 on the 2nd hole !!

SCRATCH LEAGUE FINAL

We now know who we meet on Saturday 26th September at Blairgowrie. Muckhart who were 2.5 to 0.5 down from the first leg turned things around at home and will now be our opponents. We already played them at home in the league stages and won 3 to 0 and a similar result in the final would be ideal. I have said from the start of this season we have the strongest team in the county and the team have always paid me back with their results. I can't wait for the final and for Strathmore Juniors to prove me right again !!!!!

EXCITING TIMES AHEAD

For the 4th time in 5 years Strathmore will contest the Junior Scratch League final. Tonight we only needed to half one match to make the final and boy did we do it in style ! Brad won easily 5&4. Alex came from one down with 3 to play, to win 16 with a birdie, win 17 and with a great up and down from the bunker on 18 he secured a great come back win. Tod finished his match on the 15th with a tremendous eagle, hitting his approach shot to 10ft and holing out for a 4&3 victory. Strathmore ran out    6v0 winners and I am looking forward to the final which will be held a Blairgowrie on Saturday 26th September.
Brad and Alex both played in the Paul Lawrie Jug at Moray and made the cut and finished 16th and 29th respectively.
Brad also qualified 12 in the County Gents stroke play at Crieff and will play Mark Cameron at Alyth in the match play.
Megan Ashley competed in the Scottish under 14's at Glenbervie finishing 35th.
Megan and Amy Mitchell both won their matches for the Ladies Scratch league team against Craigiehill last week and against Alyth tonight Megan won 7&6 and Amy maintained her unbeaten record with a halved match.

What terrific results and I am so proud of all our players and the continued progress they are making.

Alex and myself have also made both the Gents four ball and foursomes finals and look forward to extending our unbeaten run.

SCOTTISH BOYS OPEN STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

The final 2 rounds were played today and Brad scored a 73 in the morning to move up to tied 16 and scored 77 in the afternoon for a total of 296 and tied 21st out of the 48 who qualified. Great performance over the 3 days and with a quality International field he should be really proud of his achievement.
Amy and Megan who are competing at the Scottish Ladies Junior Open Stroke Play Championship had a mixed day with Amy having the better outward half but Megan finished ahead after a steady back 9. Good luck tomorrow girls.

ANOTHER 2 RECORDS ACHIEVED TODAY

Brad did the double at the Scottish Boys Open Championship at Royal Burgess by being the first Strathmore junior to make the cut and qualify for the final 36 holes tomorrow. Todays round of 1 over par combined with his 3 over yesterday tied 27th and included his second Strathmore record being the 1st junior to score an Albatross - on the par 5 6th. Alex missed the cut but can take a lot of positives from the 2 days and has another 3 years of competing in this age group.

Amy and Megan found it hard at Drumpellier in the Scottish Ladies Junior Open Stroke Play Championship today and will be keen to improve their scores over the next 2 days. Play well girls.

MEGAN MAKES THE FINAL

Megan was getting 5 shots from Eilidh Crawford of Kingsfield and found herself I down after the first. Great par putts on 2 and 3 kept the deficit the same. On 5 Megan used her shot to draw level before going ahead at 6. Both players found a bunker on 7 and Megan played a superb shot and holed out to extend her lead. After 11 Megan was 4 up but Eilidh was not finished and responded by winning 3 on the bounce. Megan responded with a great par on 15 after a poor 2nd shot but hit it close in 3 and holed out to go back to 2 up. 16 was halved and on 17 Megan found the bunker whilst Eilidh found the heart of the green. A great bunker shot gave her a chance and when her opponent just failed to hole her putt Megan secured a great victory with a tremendous hole out from 15ft.
The afternoon final was against Ailsa Brannock of Castle Douglas but this time Megan was giving 19 shots !!!! She found herself 1 up after 2 with a par and lost 3 and 4 where she was giving 2 shots. on the 6th Megan hit her tee shot into 2ft and Ailsa also found the green and nearly holed her second leaving Megan a 2ft putt for a half - hard school but she holed her birdie putt. The 8th was lost to a net 3 but 10 saw the match all square again. Unfortunately giving so many shots were beginning to take there toll and 11, 12 and 15 were lost and although Megan halved 16 it was not enough and Ailsa won.
I am very proud of Megan's performance over the 3 days and she can take huge positives from her result and finishing 2nd is something she should be very proud of especially giving away 19 shots.

MEGAN FLIES THE FLAG FOR STRATHMORE

Great day for Megan competing in the last 16 of the Scottish Girls under 18 Ansley Reid match play hosted by Alyth starting with a terrific 5&3 win in round 1 against Shannon Pook of Auchterarder. Dawn and I caught up with her quarter final match against Lauren Gilbert of Largs on the 9th green to find her 2 down but a great putt saw her pull it back to 1. A superb birdie on 10 brought her all square and a great par on 11 took her into a the lead. 12 and 13 were halved in pars, 14 was lost to level the match but after a long drive on 15 a superb iron into a tight pin position lead to an easy 4 and her lead was restored. With a shot on 16 a par was good enough to be dormie. Lauren was not finished and nearly holed her tee shot on 17 and pulled it back to 1 down. Megan hit a great drive down 18 and although her 2nd shot was not her best it found the middle of the green and with her opponent missing the putting surface and then running her pitch well past the hole it left Megan with 2 putts to win and she ran her approach putt up quite close and when Lauren missed her putt it allowed Megan the easiest of ways to make the semi finals but true to form she holed out to win 2 up. A 2 over par back 9 was very impressive and I would not want to be Eilidh Crawford of Kingsfield who will be giving Megan 5 shots in tomorrow's semi final.
This was one of the most impressive displays of controlled golf I have witnessed from any of our juniors     and I wish Megan her all the best for the semi final.
Kirsty who was playing Jillian Farrell - Cardross in the Scratch match play unfortunately lost out 4&3 in round 1 and is now taking some time off to allow her tendinitis injury to recover.

GIRL POWER

Congratulations to Kirsty who qualified for the last 16 of the scratch Scottish under 18 close Championship match play at Alyth today. Megan also qualified to the last 16 Ansley Reid handicap section and our best wishes go to both girls. Amy unfortunately missed out on making it a full house. Megan also joined the 70's club shooting a second round 79 on the extended Alyth course - brilliant score and look forward to tomorrow. Go the girls !!!!

Monday, 13 July 2015

GOOD LUCK GIRLS

Best wishes to Kirsty, Megan and Amy who play at Alyth tomorrow in the Scottish under 18's and with the top 16 qualifying to the scratch and the next 16 going into the handicap I have high hopes for all 3.

CHAMPIONSHIP DAY RESULTS

Congratulations to ladies champion Kirsty Brodie, Junior scratch winner Alex Simpson and Handicap winner Amy Mitchell. Great matches and commiserations to Dawn, Brad and Megan who gave them all a match. I am very proud of all our juniors and the level of golf they are playing is amazing. I along with many others was disappointed in the setting up of the course which was ridiculous, every pin position was either on a slope, on a crown, on a ridge, behind a hump or a combination of all 4 !!!!!!!!!!  I have been a member for 20 years and in that time I have never seen the course set up so stupidly. Even visitors who were paying green fees were complaining. Questions have to be asked ????

Friday, 10 July 2015

GOOD LUCK

Good luck to all all our finalist tomorrow. Play well and remember in a final you have both done well to get there but one of you will be a runner up and give credit to your opponent who has on the day played better golf. Do yourselves proud and play your best and at the end of the day the best player on the day will win.

FINALIST DECIDED

Alex Simpson who won his semi final against Tod Bannerman yesterday will face Brad Bannerman in the scratch final at 1pm. Both boys are in tremendous form and I expect a birdie fest - this potentially could be the lowest scoring final ever. 15 minutes later Amy Mitchell who today won her semi final against Conor Hughes will face Megan Ashley in the handicap final which again should be a very close with both girls playing some great golf. Good luck to all 4 and I look forward to presenting the trophies to the worthy winners.
Amy and Conor before today's semi final.

FALDO SERIES

FALDO SERIES

Mixed fortunes for Brad and Amy at the Faldo Series being played at the Dukes, Brad after 2 rounds sits tied 13th in the under 18 section only 5 shots behind the leader. Amy has struggled with the greens and is well down the field. Michael Brodie sits joint 1st in the under 21 section. Good luck tomorrow.

FIRST NEW HANDICAP OF THE SEASON

Flora McGregor becomes our first junior of 2015 to gain a Congu club handicap. Well done on achieving a handicap of 54 and look forward to seeing how quick you can take a few strokes off and I am sure you will enjoy playing in the competitions.

SUPERB - YET ANOTHER STRATHMORE CHAMPION

Congratulations to Alex Simpson who not only today become the Perth and Kinross under 16 Champion but also won the the Summer Meeting with a fantastic gross 73. Brad Bannerman with a 74 made it a magnificent Strathmore 1-2. Alex who has over the last 2 years been the under 14 Champion made the step up in age categories and will be eager to defend his new title next year.
Brilliant result !!!

HIGHS AND LOWS

Kirsty Brodie played her way into the Ladies Club Championship final with a 19th hole win over Megan Ashley. Unfortunately her forearm injury has been diagnosed as tendinitis and she has had to withdraw from all of next week events and could be out of action for up to 6 weeks as complete rest is the only cure. She is obviously gutted and we all wish her a speedy recovery.
Alex Simpson should be able to take huge positives from his tied 38th in the Scottish under 16's at Arbroath and I believe he can now take his game to the next level in the knowledge he can compete at with his elders and time is on his side.
Accompanied Flora McGregor for 18 holes tonight and was very impressed, great off the tee, very consistant on the fairway but pitching, chipping and putting requires more practice and I see her very soon having a full Congu handicap and look forward to seeing how quickly she can progress.
