PAUL LAWRIE FOUNDATION JUNIOR JUG

Buckpool's Ruari Mair shot a 79 in the final round but he still won the Paul Lawrie Foundation Junior Jug Tournament over 54 holes at the Kittocks course, Fairmont St Andrews today (Sunday).
The wind that touched 40mph on Saturday had come down to 25mph for the third round but only five boys broke 80 on the last circuit.
Mair won by two strokes with a total of 229. Campbell Gibson (Blairgowrie) and Ewan Wheat (Royal Montrose) both finished on 231. The tie breaker was the final round so second place went to Gibson with a 75 to Wheat's 77.
Christian Barbour (St Andrews New) shared the first-round lead on Saturday with Mair, both returning 74s, but Barbour was blown away to subsequent rounds of 87 and 84 to finish joint 15th on 245.

FINALS DAY

This year we will not be having semi finals as we had very limited numbers playing the qualifying rounds and due to this we have had to reduce the qualifying for the Scratch Final and Handicap Final to the 2 best single gross scores and 2 best single net scores. The Finals will be held on Saturday 8th July.

Scratch Final 12.30 pm       Alex Simpson v Amy Mitchell

Handicap Final 12.45 pm    Kirsten Miller v Megan Ashley

As Megan is still in the Ladies Scratch Championship knockouts the handicap final may have to be rearranged to another date and time.

JUST WHEN I THOUGHT THIS YEAR COULDN'T GET BETTER

Stranraer - Alex and P&K finished 9th overall in the Area Team Championships and his score counted in the afternoon singles. He currently sits tied 23rd in the Boys Order of Merit.
Next to Nairn and P&K Ladies for the Jamboree. Day 1 a win over Northern Counties, day 2 a draw with Angus and it all came down to the showdown with Aberdeenshire today and after losing the morning foursomes 2&1 they fought back and won the singles 4&2 for a 5&4 victory and they now progress to the Scottish Finals at Glenbervie on September 15th - 17th. Amy was travelling reserve, Megan unfortunately suffered an allergic reaction and travelled home yesterday and Kirsty who had played in the foursomes on the first 2 days could not play on day 3. She received terrific news she had earned automatic selection to the Girls team for the European team event which takes place at St Laurence, Finland from July 11-15 by securing third place in the Girls order of merit. Megan is currently sitting 8th.
So much brilliant news breaking and with next years Jamboree taking place at Strathmore could Strathmore have 3 or possibly more Juniors not only being in the Squad but playing in the team.

JUNIOR AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Stranraer host this event tomorrow and Alex is off representing P&K and travels down today for his practice round. With the Girls at Nairn Strathmore Juniors certainly cover the miles and have 257.2 between them this weekend.
Our range of equipment received another boost with No 31 donating some excess stock they had and Austin Carey generously donating a fantastic set comprising Taylor Made driver, Titleist woods and wedges, Ping Irons and a Scotty Cameron putter.

JAMBOREE

Kirsty, Megan and Amy (travelling reserve) head north to Nairn for the 4 Counties Jamboree. Northern are the hosts with Aberdeenshire the reigning champions and Angus the opposition and I believe this will be a catalyst for our 3 girls to experience and learn so much from the 3 day event. All three are excited to be part of this and I'm sure they will all bring back fantastic memories. Remembering this is a Ladies and not a Juniors event it is unprecedented to have 3 Juniors from the same club envolved. So proud of them all !!!

STEPHEN GALLACHER FOUNDATION TROPHY AND VASE

At Cardrona Strathmore and New Golf Club St Andrews were the only 2 clubs in Scotland being represented by 4 players and the only club in Scotland with 3 girls entered. Unfortunately Amy took ill in the morning and had to withdraw. Alex didn't have a good day and missed the cut in the boys but Kirsty and Megan kept the flag flying high. Kirsty is lying in 2nd place and Megan one stroke behind in 3rd with her 2nd round 75 being the second best girls score of the day. Tomorrow they tee up in the final round and our best wishes go with them.

Today at a very wet Royal Aberdeen Kirsty is tied 26th and hopefully with the weather improving gradually tomorrow, and the leaders going out later will help her secure a place in the top 32 for the match play stages.
