HUGE WELCOME BACK TO MOYA CRAIG
Moya a member from 4 years ago has rejoined and became our 23rd new member for 2018 and brings the total number of girls in the section up to 17. This is turning out to be the most successful year for Strathmore Juniors and I think next week I could have some more amazing news to pass on. Watch this space. Coaching was brilliant tonight and the girls team won the putting, just ask the boys to confirm. These youngsters are having so much fun and that’s what golf is all about.

STRATHMORE LADIES SCRATCH LEAGUE
Kirsty, Megan and Amy all played tonight against last years winners Pitlochry at Strathmore and helped Strathmore secure a 4 v 1 win. Kirsty won 5&4, Megan 4&2 and Amy 6&5. Great result Ladies.
BIG WEEKEND
Saturday started with 3 sessions of coaching. Kirsty, Megan and Amy joined their P&K Ladies teammates at Strathmore for a day of team bonding and course management with Karyn Dallas ahead of the Jamboree. The team was announced today with Kirsty and Megan in the team with Amy as 1st reserve. Sunday Kirsty and Megan played at Montrose in the 36 hole Ladies Munross Trophy and finished tied 8th and 13th respectfully. Alex helped P&K Gents win the Triangular Invitational against North and North East hosted by Alyth by 9 shots. So proud of all these juniors who are competing at this level. Also had 5 youngsters submitting cards for Summer League on the wee course. Anyone wanting to play remember to sign the blue entry book in the office and sign and date the card along with your marker. Anyone wanting to play 9 holes turn up at 9am on Saturday’s, 5pm on Monday’s or 5pm on Thursdays. Hopefully a few of you can get together and arrange to play on at least a once a week basis. Don’t let all this coaching go to waste.

THURSDAY UPDATE
Adrian Pyne became 2018’s 22nd new member tonight !! This year just gets better. Benjamin was fitted for his new hire set and next week Adrian will make it 33 sets this year. And I know of at least one other enquiry. 7 attended the coaching tonight and with 9 now in this session it looks like we will have to split them into 2 or get more assistants. Attended a meeting later with SSE Drumderg and they are very impressed with our success and use it as an example of community funding being used to encourage kids into sport and also being sustainable. They are also willing to look at any other projects I have to grow golf so watch this space.

ANOTHER GREAT MONDAY OF COACHING
Gareth took the kids out on the course tonight and it was great to see the youngsters putting the skills they’ve learned to good use. 3 tried for their 1st Certificates and just missed out. Liam became the 31st junior this year to take advantage of the hire scheme and becomes the 50th junior overall since the scheme started.

SUNDAY UPDATE
Kirsten captained our junior Bell Trophy team today and won her match convincingly 6&4. Unfortunately Finlay and Kieran lost their matches. With us only able to field 3 eligible players we lost the match 4-1 and have a mountain to climb in the home leg. Hopefully we can get some more players to attain their handicaps over the next month and give Milnathort a game. It was great that we were able to give 3 younger players a game and Blair, Stuart and Liam did themselves proud and from what I witnessed will not be long in getting handicaps. We finished the day off with a Strathmore members putting competition and I think in Liam’s words “with a putter the same as his grandad’s “ I managed to give them a few tips.
Alex won his match 4&2 today for P&K Gents but he thinks the team lost overall.
SATURDAY UPDATE
Amy and Kirsten met in the P&K Ladies Match Play last 16 at Blairgowrie and Amy progressed to the last 8 with Kirsten caddying for her. Unfortunately Amy lost out but both girls should be so proud of what they achieved this week.
Another 3 sessions of coaching took place and it is amazing how much progress everyone is making. Great to see parents with their kids out on the course having fun and encouraging them to play more. Lewis took possession of his new hire clubs and what an instant difference it has made. Having the right size of clubs for juniors is a must.
Alex joined Frankie and myself for a round and was heading for a decent score until he put a ball out of bounds on the 12th. It was only out by a foot so very unlucky. Still shot 75. He is playing for P&K Gents in the Provan Salver against Fife at Dunfermline tomorrow.
The first leg of the Junior Bell Trophy takes place on Sunday and this is a 5 player team event for category 2,3 and 4 players. Unfortunately we only have 3 players available for selection and will have to concede 2 matches but Milnathort who have a squad of 6 invited us to bring 6 players down so it will be a great experience for Blair, Stuart and Liam to taste Match Play conditions for the first time. Hopefully by the time the 2nd leg takes place we will have at least 5 eligible players available.

ANOTHER BRILLIANT NIGHT
Tonight, with the sun shining,we were able to concentrate on the most important part of the game - putting. Amy was great with the kids tonight, her enthusiasm is infectious and the kids response was superb. For kids new to golf they picked up the technique unbelievable quickly and I was so impressed. Lochlan’s sister Zoe joined in tonight and tomorrow will become our 20th new member this year. I fitted Lewis for a set of clubs tonight and am waiting for the arrival of a second set before a final decision is made but that will take us up to 30 hire sets being used this year. I then took Conan and Liam out on the big course for assessment and both are very close to upgrading along with Charlie and Orley who I took out last week. Currently we have an amazingly strong Scratch League squad but are struggling with our Bell Trophy squad and need more of our promising youngsters to step up, practice and play more and get their handicaps. We are going to introduce monthly rules nights which will be compulsory for those wishing to attain handicaps as it is important that when representing Strathmore you know the rules. This year just keeps getting better and I see an even brighter future for Strathmore Juniors. Finally a plea to parents - get the kids out playing, make it family time. Have fun and this is something you can all enjoy.

P&K LADIES STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Blairgowrie hosted this yesterday and Strathmore girls did rather well. Amy had a tremendous 3 over par round, finished Scratch runner up and is seeded 2nd for the match play which takes place this weekend. Kirsty who finished 3rd and Megan 6th would have both qualified for the scratch match play but had to decline their places as they have important exams to study for and have been away a lot recently. Kirsten who finished 3rd in the handicap section has been placed 15th in the Scratch qualifiers and now has to play Amy in the 1st round.

FAIRHAVEN UPDATE
Megan unfortunately could not follow up on her first round score which would have seen her make the cut for the final two rounds but the experience of playing in these types of tournaments will stand her in good stead for the rest of the season.
