7th NEW MEMBER FOR 2019 JOINS
Ben makes it 7 for this year so far. Unbelievable and so many youngsters out there playing and having fun. Very pleased by the amount of family members who come along to support their kids it gives a great impression in the clubhouse of how well behaved the kids are and how big the section is becoming. Visitors and members alike are spreading the good news of our success by seeing this.

SUPER SUNDAY
Fantastic turnout today, these fun events are proving more and more popular. 12 Juniors were joined by past Captain Alex and it was great to have him involved and to show his commitment and appreciation to Strathmore Juniors. We had 6 teams taking part in the Golfsixes Texas Scramble pairs/team format and it was brilliant. Dawn, Isabella and Rosie finished 3rd with 70 points, Fraser who had never played on the Course before and myself finished 2nd with a better back 6 but winners with a tremendous score of 71 points was Amy, Fraser and Murray. We were then joined by Cammy who was desperate to play after having to miss out yesterday afternoon and Stuart and Archie for a Texas Scramble on the big Course and Alex, Archie, Stuart and I managed to match yesterday’s 34 over 9 holes to run out winners. Met Ewan who was out with his dad on Leitfie. Dawn and I invited Kirsten and her parents along to plan her season and give her advice on Competitions that she should be playing in. This season is shaping up to be something incredible and watching the youngsters playing today makes everything we do so worthwhile. The ball striking, swings, short game and putting are improving every week and our newest players are adapting so well and for one young lad who was so nervous before we went out to see his confidence grow to a massive grin by the time we finished is what golf is all about.

BUSY SATURDAY
After spending last weekend at Level 1 Coaching and having it confirmed we were all competent at that level it was great to be back and passing on some of the things we learned to help our juniors improve. 8 players came to along to this mornings session where we concentrated on one of the must have skills, chipping. After a brief explanation on safety, grip, aim, stance and swing we were ready to go and it was amazing how quickly they all improved. We included a couple of skill tests and all were completed to great effect. Cammy could not stay so Dawn took the 3 older ones out first whilst I took the 4 younger ones out second. We heard a big roar from the 3rd green and assumed someone had chipped in but turned out they had just found Dawn’s second shot in the hole obviously for an eagle 2. Both Dawn and I were impressed with the standard of play today and the eagle helped them to a fantastic score of 34 for the 9 holes played. Great to see Ryan, Chloe and Zoe all out playing on the wee course. So encouraging. Looking forward to tomorrow’s fun event which could have a new format and a guest appearance.

WHAT AN EXCELLENT WEEKEND
Another busy weekend for Strathmore Junior Section. Megan took out Archie, Blair and Conan on Saturday and some impressive scoring. Today Kirsten led her team of Archie, Blair, Chloe and Stuart to pip Amy who had Fraser, Kian, Megan and our 6th New member of the season Isabella. So proud of these girls for their commitment and assistance. Dawn, Jackie, Frankie and I were away at Elwood doing our Level 1 Coaching Course and am delighted to announce we all passed the practical exam and just await the result of the 26 question multiple choice. We all worked very hard to achieve this with numerous nights of study and look forward to implementing all the skills we have learnt over the past 2 days programme. Early morning starts both days. The 2019 taster sessions are going to be amazing !!!

THIS COULD BE THE MOST EXCITING NEWS YET
Just back from a Scottish Golf meeting regarding Golfsixes and am reallly excited about what the future holds. Golfsixes is the by far the most exciting concept to get the transitions from coaching to playing into every club. It enhances what we already have in place at Strathmore and fills a gap between coaching and getting handicaps. We will have a squad of 12 juniors, 6 of whom who will play against 4 other clubs at each course in a pairs Texas Scramble stableford format over 6 holes on a shortened or par 3 Course. What a brilliant way to give juniors who don’t have handicaps the chance to compete and have fun and experience playing different courses in a team environment. We will have our own Team Golf sixes shirts. Looking forward to our Juniors playing Arbroath, Carnoustie, Kirriemuir and Montrose. We now have a complete pathway.
We also have another pal of one existing juniors wanting to come along for a taster session!! The more the merrier

ANOTHER CRACKING DAY TO PLAY GOLF
Great to have Megan along helping out at our latest Weekly Fun Texas Scramble. Had invited Isabella along to join in and see what she thought and am delighted to say she loved it and is off home with a membership form to complete and will become our 5th new member for 2019. She loved her bowl of chips as well !!! Blair, Conan and myself took the honours with a level par round including 5 up and downs. It’s all about the short game. Blair was chuffed as we used 5 of his tee shots.

UNBELIEVABLE CONDITIONS
Started snowing last night and thought our chances of playing today were slim so what a surprise when I’d filled up a bottle of warm water to de-ice the car windscreen to find it clear. Went down for a course inspection at 7.15 am and was delighted to find it playable. Kirsten was first to arrive followed by Conan, Stuart and Cammy. The boys played a Winter League card and an up to date table is now up on the Junior board. Conan holds a half point advantage over Archie but I’m sure others will figure soon as more rounds are played. Although the ground was rock hard with a wee covering of snow, the sky was clear and the Sun shining. Everyone played well and I am so impressed by the commitment these juniors have. After the round we played a better ball match over the first and ninth, with Kirsten and myself giving the boys a shot each on both holes. A ten foot birdie putt on the first gave us the lead and a par on the last for a half was good enough to secure a win.
Ken Macleod approached me to say he had a set of irons in his boot for the hire scheme. Cleveland Hibore and 2 Odyssey putters - a Tri-ball SRT and 2 Ball F7. Pat Duffy also donated 2 putting aids and numerous balls last week to be used as prizes. The generosity of members never ceases to amaze me.
Tomorrow weather permitting we will have our normal Fun Texas Scramble open to all juniors and Kirsten will be in charge.
