WHERE DO I START

Coaching went brilliant today with Gareth concentrating on different methods of chipping and pitching around the greens. So many improvements especially for those who listened and paid attention to his instructions and put it into practice. Next up was 8 of our youngsters playing Summer League on Rannaleroch and what amazing scores. Keegan shot a personal best gross 87, for 47 stableford points, making him our latest member of the 80’s club. His performance today impressed Dawn so much. Olly took 2nd place with 45 points, Tom whose driving was outstanding, bar the 14th, played really well for 43 points and Jack also played below his handicap for 38 points. It’s becoming a tough school as these youngsters are now inspiring each other onto greater heights. 2 of our past junior Captains were playing in the Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship at Ladybank. Kirsten missed the matchplay knockout and Megan got knocked out in the last 16. Katy who also started at Strathmore lost in the last 8. Girls, especially Saoirse, Jessica and Ellie-Marie let’s get your handicaps sorted and see how quickly you can compete along with these others. Exciting times ahead.

GOLFSIXES

Monifieth hosted today’s event and a fantastic day was had by all. Jackie was the team manager today and Dawn and I came along to assist. Strathmore finished 4th but only 4 points behind the winners Ballumbie. Well done to the 3 Strathmore pairings, Archie and James, Joseph and Ellie-Marie and Keir and Jessica.

ANOTHER BUSY WEEK AND SUCCESS FOR THE REID BROTHERS

Conan pipped Keir by one shot in the 2nd qualifier on Tuesday and his gross 83 was also best on the night.  Keir broke 100 for the first time on Saturday and had a fantastic 45 stableford points. It’s great to see the competitive spirit growing within the section. I was out with Louis and Archie, who got in his 2nd card for handicap. Both boys were suitably impressed when I holed my second shot on the 3rd for an eagle, a feat I nearly repeated on the 10th. It’s great seeing the progress these youngsters are making and Keir especially has certainly made all his putting practice pay off and is now reaping the benefits. Hard work and practice works.

COACHING, NEW MEMBER NUMBER 8 AND STUART SHOOTS 78

Busy day, Hunter got fitted for his first set of hire clubs and was hitting them great. Ollie will be next. Finn and Olly swapped their golf shoes for other pairs having out grown the first pairs. Some small grip and swing changes were made and improvements were immediate. Brandon also needs a bigger pair of golf shoes in 2 weeks time. Noah is our latest recruit. I had the pleasure of playing with Cammy and Stuart today and these boys are hitting very long off the tee. Stuart equalled his best ever score of 78 and don’t think it’ll be long before he is a single figure player. Keir however pipped him in the first club championship qualifier with a better back 9. Hopefully we can get a few more playing regularly on a Saturday which will improve all their games.

RESULT FROM SATURDAY

Stuart kept up his excellent early season form and just pipped Keegan with a better back 9 to win the May Medal. Keegan will be delighted with his gross score especially as it was off the white tees. Conan and Cameron will be very disappointed as both were going to be playing at Cruden Bay in a 54 hole Junior Tour event which was cancelled due to fog.

SKILLS CHALLENGE OFF TO A FLYING START

Amazing start with 6 of our youngsters leading their age group sections in the Skills Challenge with 4 others in the top 5. This proves that the Coaching our juniors receives definitely pays off big time. Some of the improvements were spectacular. Keegan, Saoirse and Seamus scored 100 points in the putting with Archie just missing out on a maximum 120 points by leaving his 20ft putt 6 inches short and having to settle for a brilliant 110 points. Best chipping was Conan and Keegan and this was the area most players can and need to improve on. The driving was very consistent and most players I feel got the most out of it but some of the youngest players excelled in this department. Such an amazing start to what is looking like a great season. Special thanks to Conan who helped out with the session.
