GREAT RESULT FOR OUR GOLFSIXES TEAM

We headed off to Arbroath today and our team performed brilliant scoring 40,41 and 41 respectively giving us a total of 122 and securing us 2nd place and 5 league points. Some really good shots were played and the confidence within the squad is growing with every event.

JACK TOPS TODAYS QUALIFIER

Another great turnout with Jack the run away winner. Upgrade in hire clubs obviously working. Olly kept up his momentum with a 2nd place finish. And everyone filled in their cards impeccably today, name, competition, handicaps and date all there. Gareth held the last Saturday coaching sessions and concentrated on putting and it was a lot of fun with team and individual games. I look forward to seeing loads of juniors out during the summer practicing their short game, putting and playing on the courses. Take full advantage of your memberships.

AND ANOTHER NEW HANDICAP

Archie was needing his 3rd card done, so after a horrendous thunder storm passed by, I took him out and he was round in 2 hours and 25 minutes. Some great shots and putts and a huge potential if he keeps listening and learning. His first WHS handicap is 53.2 and I believe this will come down very quickly as his enthusiasm to get better is huge. I was really impressed by some of his sand wedge shots around the greens, he commits and gets the ball in the air every time which is indeed a skill.

ANOTHER NEW HANDICAP

Dawn and I had the pleasure of taking Saoirse out for her 3rd handicap card today and is our latest WHS handicap player, her first handicap is 30.7 which is tremendous. I would like to thank Ann Cameron the ladies handicap Secretary for her very prompt response and making a young girl very happy. Saoirse’s already been on the phone to Ireland to let her grandad know. Her length off the tee is very impressive and once she puts in some work on her short game I expect over the summer to see more improvements.

RECORD NUMBER COMPETING TODAY

First of all a huge thank you to Martin Reid, Conan and Keir’s dad, who scored for Joseph and Ally. Eleven played in the junior competition today with Cameron also playing in the Gents Club Championship Qualifier. Fantastic turnout and with another 2 with only one card to submit for handicap and another with 2 cards to go and another looking to start getting cards in we might soon need another tee time. Olly took the honours today with a brilliant 44 points ahead of Jack who scored an impressive 39 points after getting an upgrade to his hire set. Joseph played to his handicap and Ally finished off a great week for him with his best score since joining Strathmore. Looking forward to some exciting scores over the summer holidays with all these kids being able to play more often.

2nd SKILLS CHALLENGE

6 attended tonight and Ally stole the show with an outstanding 335 points. What can I say, his chipping was fantastically consistent, all chips from 10yds, within 3ft,  and all past the hole. He holed putts from 5 and 10ft and was within 12 inches from 20ft. His 3 drives averaged just over 200yds each. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Jessica improved in all 3 skills. Archie and Saoirse improved in driving and chipping. Keegan and Seamus improved their driving scores. We now have 4 players leading their age groups. Ally is not only leading his group but is equal 2nd best in “all the age groups” combined.

GOLFSIXES

Latest adventure took the team to Carnoustie for the 2nd round and playing the Burnside Course. Seamus and Joseph were first out, followed by Athur and Andrew with Ross and Tommy making the 3rd group. All 6 played really well and will benefit from the experience, great to see them chatting away as they played. Finished 5th but only 3 points behind 3rd place.

FIRST WHS HANDICAP FOR ELLIE-MARIE

Just had the pleasure of informing a delighted Ellie-Marie that her first WHS handicap is 48.3, which is 6 shots below the maximum. She won the Scottish Girls 7-9 age group Skills Challenge at the AIG Open held at Gullane last year and is part of Strathmore’s current GolfSixes squad. She is a very enthusiastic member of the section and I’m sure getting her full handicap will give her the opportunity to become more involved and can’t wait to see the improvements she will inevitably make.

KEEGAN AND KEIR TOP THE LEADERBOARD AGAIN

Delighted to see these two top the leaderboard again. Both are working so hard at their games and are spurring each other on. Keegan was so keen this morning he signed in at 7.15am and Keir must have had a long lie as he didn’t sign in until 9.05am. That shows how keen they areas they weren’t teeing off until 12.45pm.Stuart and Conan both played below their handicaps and had the 2 best gross scores. Great to see them all enjoying playing and the scores being returned. Hopefully within the next few weeks we will have some others joining them, with at least 5 others looking to submit cards for handicap.

KEIR DOES IT AGAIN

Keir had another great round last night, winning by 4 shots.
