Brad Bannerman received the Under 14 Coaching Medal prize, Grant Martin and Rory Tinker received the Junior Foursomes prize and Allan Easton received a prize for being a member of the successful Perth and Kinross Gary Harvey winning team.
To cap a great night for Strathmore it was announced Allan Easton has been awarded a Scholarship at Gleneagles which gives him full use of all the Courses, full use of the Academy and the coaching facilities, free range balls and coaching from Gleneagles Professionals for 2010. Allan practices constantly and last winter was seen in all weathers hitting 100's of balls and spending hours on the putting green. His efforts have now not only been recognised at Strathmore but by the County Coaching Selectors.
Strathmore Juniors for 2010 have now been awarded 2 Scholarships and both Allan and Hannah merit these rewards for all the hard work they both put into their practice. We wish them both the best and know they will take full advantage of this fantastic opportunity to work on and improve their games.

Junior member Emily Aird has been awarded a Personal Achievement Award for her golfing accomplishments this year. In particularly her participation in the US Kids Golf European Tournament at Gullane where she finished a very credible 6th and also for being invited to take part in the Teen World Championships in North Carolina.
The award ceremony was at the Perth concert Hall on Wednesday night where she had a photograph taken with Elizabeth Grant, Convenor of the Lifelong Learning Committee and John Fyffe the Executive Director for Education and Children's Services.
It fantastic for Emily to be recognised is this way and we are all very proud of her.
If you would like to see Emily being interviewed while she was in the US go to http://www.uskidsgolf.com/ and click on tournaments. A video screen comes up on the right hand side of the next screen. If you scroll down on the video list you should find one that is called Teen World Championship Day 1 Girls 2009 (it then tells you it is day 3 but just keep going). It's great.

Hannah Robb has had the most fantastic golfing season. She has not only reduced her handicap by 17 full shots to 11 but won many junior and ladies events along the way. Hannah has not come by this extraordinary reduction without hours and hours of practice and dedication and this has not gone unnoticed by Perth and Kinross Ladies County Golf Association when, today, she has been awarded with the greatest county accolade a junior member can obtain, a scholarship at Gleneagles Golf Academy for 2010.
We are sure that Hannah will take full advantage of this fabulous opportunity and will follow in the footsteps of Annabel Niven, Roseanne Niven, Emily Ogilvy and of course +3 handicapper Carly Booth who have all gone on to represent Scotland.
Hannah is not the first member of our section to be granted scholarship, sisters Emily and Megan Aird have both also been awarded this accolade. We are all very proud of all these girls and their achievements.
Have a great year Hannah!!

Then following the AGM the prize giving began and we are so very lucky to have so many fantastic trophies which have been donated to the junior section. To everyone who was lucky enough to be presented with a trophy very well done and to all other members we hope you have had an enjoyable year.

Emily Aird finished an excellent 13th with 30 stableford points over the Queens Course at Gleneagles today and our other finalist Hannah Robb finished 20th with 26 points well done to both.
We also extend our good wishes to both girls who are playing this week at Dornoch. Will keep you posted of their progress.
The Dunfermline Junior Masters final takes place today over the Queens Course at Gleneagles. There are four P&K girls who have made the finals and we are delighted that two of them are from Strathmore. They are Emily Aird and Hannah Robb. Emily will tee of at 9.24am then Hannah at 9.42.
To make it to the final of the national junior competition is a fantastic achievement for the girls and we wish them all the very best of luck. I will let you know the results later in the day.

Whilst playing in the Junior Competition on Saturday 19/9/9 Kirsty Brodie broke 100 for the first time on the Ranneleroch Course. Her outstanding 99 included an excellent 5 on the 14th where Kirsty was disappointed after hitting her 3rd shot to a couple of feet not to hole the putt and secure her birdie.
Well done Kirsty and congratulations in knocking 4 shots off your handicap.

Junior member Cameron Gray has become the second of our casualties this year! Just like Benjamin Fischer, Cameron has also broken his left arm and will be out of action for the rest of the season.
Cameron was playing rugby when he had his accident and not only has he broken his arm but he has also torn ligaments as well.
We wish you a very speedy recovery Cameron and hope you can come along on Sunday 18th for the Junior Prize giving.

After a great win over Auchterarder which also saw Brad Bannerman making a successful debut winning his match 5:4 Strathmore Juniors secured 3rd position in their group narrowly failing to reach the semi final stages.
I would like to thank all the players who represented the section this season and look forward to next year when the battle for places will really hot up with possibly 12 players competing for the 5 starting places in every match.
I would like to thank Grant Martin for his committment to the Scratch Team and also to the Junior Section during his year as Junior Captain and we all wish Grant every success when he starts his University Course at Herriot Watt this week and look forward to seeing him around the club when he returns home from his studies.

Yesterday was our very first Presidents Day for Juniors. President Sandy Bushby came along to watch you all play and she kindly donated an array of prizes and very generously supplied lunch for all who played. So many thanks go to Sandy.
Unfortunately the weather was not so kind and our hats off to you all for continuing to play in weather which most adults would refuse too!! However considering the dreadful weather the scoring was not only very good but extremely close as well. To separate the top two scores we not only went back to the last 6 holes or the last 3 but the very last hole and the winners was Kirsty Brodie. In a very close second place was Kirsty's brother Michael. Well done you both.
Full results were as follows:
Putting Competition: Hannah Robb
Nearest the Pin 12 and over: Michael Brodie
Nearest the Pin under 12's: Matthew Sime
Longest Drive 12 and over: Hannah Robb
Longest Drive under 12's: Matthew Sime
2nd place: Michael Brodie
1st Place: Kirsty Brodie
Well done to all.

Last night Rory came back from 2 down against yours truly to win 4 and 2 and secure his place in this years final. Rory's chipping was excellent and if he plays as well in the final should have a great chance of winning. Good luck and best wishes from Iain and the whole of the Junior Section.

Kirsty teeing off at 7.40am on Longleaf , Pinehurst has a round of 47 which is currently 8 behind the leader but only 3 behind the best "rest of the world" score . With the remainder of the field still on the course we will keep you up to date as the scores come in.
Matthew tees off at 9.34am on Midland , Pinehurst.
Delighted to report we have received an email from Matthew's Mum from over the pond. This is how it reads:
'Hi just a wee note to let you know that we are here and it is roasting hot xx Matthew has had a practice round on the course and is playing really well he shot a 49 off the championship yellows which is a par 35 and today he played the course as it will be set up for the 3 days. He had a 1 under par 35 so hope he can play this good over the next three days. He tee's off at 9.45 on Thurs . Iwill let you know how he gets on xx '
Great to hear that the family are there and enjoying the tournament. Lets hope his run of form continues. We all wish Matthew and Kirsty the very best of luck!

Two new handicaps were awarded last night as Iain and I marked Kerri Younger and Liam McPherson final cards. Liam received a handicap of 54 and Kerri 52.
We look forward to seeing both at all our junior events and I hope to see lots of summer league cards for them!
Well done to you both.
There are eight other juniors who handed in two cards and require a card to be marked, so please get in touch with Iain and he will arrange something with you.

Must apologise for lack of news being posted last week but family and work commitments have kept me very busy . So in reverse order here are the highlights for the last 10 days.
Josh McKenna and Hannah Robb both played rounds of 81 Scratch - Josh's score was recorded in the Wednesday Stableford where he won the event with 47 points and has now knocked 12 strokes off his original handicap of 28 . Hannah shot 81 in the Strathmore Junior Open on Tuesday, which was sponsored , organised and run by the Centre, many of our juniors took part with Hannah winning the Girls Scratch and Kirsty Brodie winning the Handicap with a nett 76 . Hannah has now knocked 17 strokes off her handicap during the last 4 months and as she is now playing off 11 I don't think it will be long before she is in single figures. Josh finished 3rd h'cap under 14 and Jamie McCowan won the overall and over 14 h'cap with a nett 68. Below are some photos of Hannah and Kirsty with their trophies.
A Junior Texas Scramble took place on Leitfie on Monday night with Michael Brodie , Tod Bannerman and Euan Robb making up the winning team.
Emily Aird became our first player to make her way to the USA for the Teen World Championships at Pinehurst starting today. Matthew Sime and Kirsty Brodie follow out later for their competition which takes place next week and we wish all 3 the best wishes for a great time and hopefully some good scores along the way.
The Leroch Trophy was washed out on Sunday and an alternative date will be arranged - watch the notice board.
Hannah Robb won the Junior putting competition on Friday.
Unfortunatley Strathmore were knocked out of the Junior Bell Trophy by Alyth in a 3:2 thriller with Josh Mckenna and Frankie Moran winning their matches but with Hannah Robb, Brad Bannerman and John McKenna all losing this allowed Alyth to progress to the semi finals. All the players who took deserve credit for their performances and no doubt are looking forward to competing next year.
The Junior Scratch league team lost narrowly away to Muckart being 2:1 ahead with Allan Easton and Megan Aird recording wins and Rory Tinker losing his match , both the remaining games came to the last tee all square . Both Grant Martin and Emily Aird lost on the last giving victory to the home side.
Last week was also very busy for Megan and Emily who both competed in the Scottish under 21 stroke play at Nairn and also in the Mackie Bowl at Gullane No1 .
Alan Easton also represented Perth and Kinross at Ballumbie in a inter area county event .
Hope I have not missed anything and am now awaiting news from across the pond.

Tuesday, 21 July 2009
Hannah finished 3rd top qualifier with 38 pts and Emily was 13th with 33 pts , well done to both girls. Unfortunately Allan Easton and Rory Tinker both missed out of the top 14 qualifing places
Wednesday, 15 July 2009
Megan Aird just missed qualifying for the top 36 by 2 shots ( Emily Aird by 8 shots ) but Megan goes into the 16 qualifiers for the Ansley Reid Salver and plays Claire Prouse of Hazelhead in this mornings matchplay stages.
Fun bogey night finalises Junior Bell Trophy Team to take on Alyth next Monday night at Strathmore.
Last night 8 squad members took part and I am pleased to announce the team will be Hannah Robb, Brad Bannerman, Josh McKenna, John McKenna and Frankie Moran

Well haven't you all been busy with your summer league cards. Fantastic to see so many of you taking part and now with the summer holidays in full swing I am expecting a lot more over the next 5 weeks or so. Remember two cards a week are allowed and you must remember to sign the book, which is situated in the office, before you play. After you have SIGNED AND DATED the card pop it in the junior box at the entrance to the club house.
So far our star is Matthew Sime who has already reduced his handicap from 26 to 19 this season alone! Matthew has returned 15 cards already and sitting nicely at the top of the leader board. Well done Matthew. Callum Ewan is also doing well, he has returned 11 cards and sitting in 2nd place so far. In third place is Tod Bannerman who has returned 7 cards. But there is plenty of time left for you all to go and get more cards in and climb the leader board!!
Another mention must go to Michael Brodie whose 'club' handicap has almost reached single figures so keep it up and see if you can reach it by the end of the season Michael.
So to re-cap, two cards, sign the book, sign and date the card and place in the box!!! Easy peasy!!!
A race night will be held at Strathmore Golf Centre on Friday 17th. The funds raised from this event will go to our very talented juniors, Emily Aird, Kirsty Brodie and Matthew Sime who are all making their way to America to represent GB&I at Pinehurst in August.
To get your ticket and enjoy what will be a fun night please call the office on 01828 633322.
See you there

Yesterday, as I predicted, saw probably the most exciting

The day began with a Junior Medal on Leitfie course. With the winner of the club Medal was Alister Goodfellow with a fantastic nett 48. The winner of the Congu Medal was Michael Brodie also with 48. Great scoring boys. It was then great to see all of you coming out to watch the final after your game! Well done and thank you, I am sure you enjoyed some inspirational golf!
1st hole Allan birdied 1 up
2nd hole Rory birdied all square
3rd hole Rory birdied 1 up
4th hole Allan won with par all square
5th hole halved in birdies
6th hole Rory birdied 1up
7th hole halved in pars
8th hole halved in bogies

10th hole halved in birdies
11th hole halved in pars
12th hole halved in pars
13th hole Allan won with par all square
14th hole Allan won with par 1 up
15th hole Allan won with par 2 up
16th hole halved in pars
17th hole halved in bogies and Allan retains the Junior Club Championship Trophy for the 4th consecutive year winning 2 and 1.
A total of 8 birdies , Rory 5 and Allan 3 and a better ball score of 4 under par through 17. Brilliant golf, they should also both be very proud of the way they both conducted themselves on the course. The game was played in the spirit that is expected from all golfers, junior or otherwise. A huge thank you to all parents and adults who came along on a very wet day and supported the final it really made the day extra special to have over 25 people walking round and enjoying the match.

Yesterday at Largs in the under 16 Scottish Boys Allan failed by one shot to qualify for the final day after finding the out of bounds on the 17th and 18th . As you can imagine he was very disappointed with his finish after getting himself into such a promising position . No doubt Allan will overcome this and take the positives out of his overall performance and his golf will continue to improve .
Tuesday, 7 July 2009
News from Largs and the Scottish boys under 16 , Allan Easton shoots a first round 75 ss 71 to give him a top 40 slot and only 6 behind the leader . Tomorrow Alan plays again and with the cut tomorrow night a similar round should see him make the final day.

This weekend was the Gilrs Inter-division Matches played at Ballumbie Castle Golf Club. 6 girls from each of the four divisions played foursomes matchplay. Two Strathmore members were seleceted to play in the North Division they were sisters Megan and Emily Aird. The North Division is made up of Perth and Kinross, Angus, Aberdeen and Northern Counties. This is the first year in the 5 year history of the event that P&K have put forward two representitives. All the girls who take part must not have a handicap lower than 6 and all matches are played scratch in a Foursome fourmat.
On Saturday North's first first match was against South. Hannah McCook (Northern Coutnies) and Louise McGillvary (Aberdeenshire) had a very tough match which ended in South's favour by 1 hole. Katie Reid (Angus) and Emily won their match convincingly 4&3 and Jemma Chalmers (Angus) and Megan won their match 1up. In the afternoon we played East where Hannah and Louise won their match 1 up however Katie and Emily lost by one hole and Jemma and Megan lost 6&4. On Sunday we played West where we lost the over all match by 2-1. All matches were well fought and the girls play was fantastic. Hannah and Louise lost their match 3&2 as did Jemma and Megan. However Katie and Emily provided a grand stand finish when their opponents put their ball out of bounds and the next shot was placed in the bunker. Katie then played a 165 yard up hill shot to an elevated green 6 ft from the pin!!! A fantastic finish to a wonderful weekend.
The final scores were
East 7 points
West 5 points
North 4 points
South 2 points
Well done to the girls it was a joy to watch and we even managed to stay dry on Sunday!!
Below is some photos taken during the weekend.

With some excellent returns from last night Kirsty Brodie won the Leitfie medal with a 3 under handicap score of 26 pipping Callum Ewan by 1.5 shots. A vote was taken last night by the Juniors to make the next Leitfie Medal to be held on the 12th of July an 18 hole event
Hannah Robb and Kirsty were out first as a two ball they finished their round in under an hour. As they had time to spare before the other 9 competitors completed their rounds I accompanied them as they played holes 10, 11 and 12 on the Ranneleroch course which Hannah played 5-4-6 including a shot played out of the ditch and Kirsty managed to play in 5-5- 6 being just over pin high with her fourth shot to the 12th and just missing her putt for a par. I was very impressed !
1st 3 places from last night
Kirsty Brodie Nett 26
Callum Ewan Nett 27.5
Frankie Moran Nett 28

Strathmore Juniors win Perth and Kinross inaugural Mini Foursomes
Rory Tinker and Grant Martin today put Strathmore Golf Club into the history books by becoming the first winners of the inaugural Mini Foursomes event held at Pitlochry Golf Club with a gross 75 nett 65.5 which was also the lowest nett. However, as always, scratch takes precedence and they can only win one section. What a fantastic result.

CONGRATULATIONS HANNAH
Strathmore Golf Centre hosted the 'Cash for Kids' tournament this weekend and our very own Hannah Robb won first place in the Ladies Handicap Section. Fantastic for Hannah and for Strathmore Juniors. Well done Hannah.
We were also very proud of Hannah who stood up and made a very good thank you speech. The first of many we think Hannah!

In the morning Hannah Robb represented the section in the Gibb Trophy, Perth and Kinross County's Handicap Championship, but unfortunately lost her semi-final to the eventual winner. Remembering that Hannah has only been playing golf for less than 2 years this is a tremendous achievement.
In the afternoon the Juniors were represented by Brad Bannerman (18) Michael Brodie (20) Josh McKenna (23) John McKenna (24) and Frankie Moran (26) and played in Perth and Kinross Junior Bell Trophy in the first leg away to King James VI. This is a mixed 5 singles Match play knock out event where Category A players are not permitted , only players with handicaps between 6 and 28 boys and 6 and 36 girls are eligible. As the County already have a mixed Scratch League this is to encourage clubs who do not either have enough low handicap players or have enough junior members to accommodate both Scratch and Handicap teams. Rob Blackburn welcomed our team , 4 of whom had never played match play before. Rob and myself exchanged team sheets and as this must be played in strict handicap order we worked out the differentials for our teams. King James had put out a very strong team with handicaps of 6,7,13,16 and19. We wished our teams all the best and off they went.
Things were looking bad when we were up in only one match. Josh was 4 down at the turn and I waited for John who was 2 down to walk a couple of holes. John playing very well turned it around and went ahead in his match, I had spoken to Michael who by this time was well ahead in his match and Frankie who had also come back and had gone ahead in his tie. Brad Bannerman was 2 down when I caught up with him and by time I got back to Josh he had got his match back to 1 down playing 16, where he had a shot. As Josh walked off the 16 green all square he took time to reminded me again his opponent was in 4th year and he was only in 1st year! Both missed the 17th green and as Josh was the first to play he lined up his shot over the bunker to a tight front pin position taking a full swing with a wedge he floated the ball into the air landing it softly onto the green and running it up to a couple of feet to win the hole and go ahead. After two excellent drives Josh hit a good 2nd but his opponent unfortunately hit his 2nd shot out of bounds. Josh knowing he also had a shot on the hole turned to me and said " I don't want to win like this" remembering Josh only turned 13 this week what a statement for a young lad to make.
The final result was King James VI 2 Strathmore 3 with the return leg taking place on Sunday 24th May. I would like to thank all the boys for their efforts and sportsmanship and Brad for his speech which his teammates elected him ( in his absence) to do.
Thanks also to all the parents for getting the team to and from Perth and to Jackie , Frank and Ron who also stayed to assist.
On returning to Strathmore I met Allan Easton and Grant Martin who although the Gents Scratch team had lost 3-2 both boys had won their matches convincingly.

Well done to Hannah Robb who has played her way into the semi finals of the handicap county championships. She will play tomorrow at Strathmore at at 9.45am and we all wish her well!!
Emily and Megan Aird played in the scratch section and did themselves and Strathmore proud losing to county squad players by two holes and 4&2 respectively. Although the County have had juniors playing in the scratch section of the championship it is the first time there has been two juniors from the same club. So that in itself is a great acheivement.
Well done to all three girls and good luck to Hannah .

Emily Aird and Rory Tinker endorse Strathmore Junior Section and Strathmore Golf Centre coaching programme by winning Blairgowrie Golf Club's Friday night competitions. Both are a credit to Strathmore Golf Club and it just goes to show how with the encouragement of the Ladies and Gents Sections over the years by welcoming Juniors of any age to play in all their competitions that both Emily and Rory will soon be single figure players.
Rory returned a staggering nett 68 and as the CSS was 72 Rory was 4 below, Emily returned a nett 75 and with a CSS for the ladies of 77 Emily was 2 under.
Well done to both,
Iain Butchart

Unfortunately due to the amount of entries P&K have had to limit the field by handicap following the policy of National Junior Golf which states all Medals are Scratch.
