JUNIOR 3 MAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP AT BLAIRGOWRIE
Auchterarder won yesterdays event with Strathmore finishing 2nd for the 2nd year running. The competition rules are that the best 2 scores count which is unfortunate as if all 3 scores had counted we would have finished first.

ANOTHER 2 HANDICAPS AWARDED
Alexei Butchart and Fergus Barron have attained Fun Handicaps of 34 and 54 respectively to be used on Leitfie for Summer and Winter League competitions. I wish both players every success in their efforts to reduce their handicaps during the season.
ANOTHER STRATHMORE COUNTY CHAMPION
Ross Dallas won the Angus county boys' match-play championship at Carnoustie Buddon on Thursday.
Ross raced to a three-hole lead after only five holes in the final against Marc Howie (Ballumbie) before Marc turned the deficet into a one-hole lead through 15 with some stunning play.
Ross made a solid birdie at the long 16th to square the match before a late putting lapse from Marc at 17 allowed Ross to go one up again and a half at the 18th secured the title for him.
The victory helped erase Ross's dissapointment at losing last year's final.

MIXED FORTUNES TODAY
Unfortunately Michael Brodie could not continue his excellent form from yesterday and dropped down the field but he should be very proud of what he has achieved over the last 3 days. Making the cut in the Scottish Open Under 16's is a major achievement especially with so many International competitors taking place.
The 1st Highland Spring Junior Master's qualifier took place at Auchterarder today and last years defending Girls Champion Kirsty Brodie made it through to the Final at Gleneagles in 12th place with 30 stableford points and Alex Simpson finished 11th in the Boys section and also qualified with 38 points. Well done to both.

UPDATE FROM MICHAEL
A very happy and excited Michael Brodie called to let me know how he played today. A birdie 3 from 2ft on the 1st set up the day and with at least 8 missed birdie chances Michael feels confident about tomorrows 36 holes and has reduced his handicap to 3.0 !!!
ANOTHER 1ST FOR STRATHMORE
Today Michael Brodie made another bit of Strathmore history by making the cut and qualifying for the final 2 rounds of the Scottish under 16 Open Stroke Play Championship with a superb level par 71. I spoke to Michael last night and we discussed yesterdays round. I told Michael to go out and play his best and he has certainly done that. Absolutely brilliant and such a great day for our Junior Captain , good luck for the 36 holes tomorrow from us all. Tied 19th , the 6th highest Scottish and top Perth and Kinross player to qualify.

FINALS DAY
Congratulations to Kirsty Brodie who became the youngest ever Ladies Club Champion. Winning the first 2 holes Kirsty took an early lead but Dawn Butchart fought back to win 3,6 ,7 & 9 to go 2 up at the turn. A birdie 3 on 10 and win on 12 squared the match and with a strong finish by winning 15,16,17 & 18 took a 4 hole lead after the 1st round. Dawn started the 2nd round strongly by winning the 1st and birdieing the 3rd to cut the deficit to 2. Kirsty responded by winning 5 Dawn responded by winning 6. Kirsty regained her 3 hole advantage by winning 9. Dawn won 11 Kirsty won 12 and Dawn 13 and 16 to take it back to 1 down. Kirsty won on the 36th hole when Dawn sportingly conceded Kirsty the hole as she had two putts from 6ft for the half which would have been enough to secure the Championship. A great match and a tremendous result for Kirsty.
In the Junior Scratch Final Michael Brodie made it a family double with a comeback against Brad Bannerman who was 2 up after 11 but Michael won 12,13 &14 and won 2&1.
As I said last night I expected close matches and thats what we got, well done to all and I expect the same on Wednesday when Kirsty and Tod Bannerman play the Handicap Final.

HANDICAP SEMI FINAL RESULTS
Tonight Tod Bannerman and Kirsty Brodie both won their matches to secure their places into the Handicap final. Tod played Alex Simpson and was getting 5 shots and playing some great golf was only 5 over par after 9 with Alex only 4 over , Tod kept his form and finished off his match 4&3 to reach his first ever final. Kirsty who today became a single figure handicapper today after a great round at Murrayshall. Callum Ewan getting 15 shots was 3 up and still 1 up on 17 but Kirsty won the last 2 holes to secure a tremendous come back and progress to her 2nd final of the season.
The Junior handicap final will take place at a time still to be arranged.

BEST ROUND BY A JUNIOR I HAVE EVER WITNESSED
Tonight I had the pleasure to witness Michael Brodie not only join the 60's Club but smash his way into it !!!!
Michael's card -
4-4-4-2-4-2-4-4-4= 32 (4 under)
4-4-4-4-4-3-4-3-5= 35 (1 under)
67 (5 under)
This round included an up and down from the green side bunker on the 1st, lip out for a 3 on the 2nd, birdies on 4,5 & 6 followed by up and downs on 7,8,9 - 4 under at the turn. A birdie on 12 followed by a superb 4 on 13 including visiting both bunkers !! A great 2nd shot from the rough on 15 to 1ft for a birdie. A brilliant up and down on 16 and an even better one on 17 with a 20ft putt from off the green. Trying to keep Michael calm, we had never discussed scores, I tried to talk about anything else but Michael after hitting a great drive pulled his 2nd shot and found the left rough, wanting to take the front bunker out of play his 3rd shot went over the green but a 15ft putt saw an incredible round of 67!!! Putting stats an amazing 23.
PS Glad we weren't playing donkey tonight, but now the course record is in sight !!
I cannot believe how how much we have achieved over the last 4 years -Scratch League Finalists , Senior Club Champions , a County Stroke Play Champion and 2 National Champions. I know we have achieved so much but I see so much potential from today's Juniors and the ones we are bringing through that I believe that in the future we can achieve so much more. Please Strathmore Juniors keep believing anything is possible and it is.

LORETTO SCHOOL SCOTTISH BOYS AND GIRLS UNDER 14's OPEN STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Strathmore has a new National Champion, today at Buchanan Castle, Alex Simpson was crowned Loretto Scottish School Boys Under 12 Scratch Champion. I am so pleased for Alex as he qualified to play in the event due to his low handicap and as I told him tonight this is just the start and I know he will progress through the age groups and have many more successes. Alex and his family move to Alyth tomorrow and I wish them all the best in their new home and Alex will never be away from Strathmore which is great news for us all.
Kirsty Brodie improved on her score of yesterday by 1 shot and finished in the top half of the field. Well done to both players in qualifying and doing Strathmore proud.

SUPER SUNDAY
Scratch League team made their 2012 debut away at Kinross. Michael Brodie led from the front and recorded a tremendous 5&3 win over Scottish Academy player Scott McLeod, Kirsty Brodie (making her debut) not to be out done by her brother recorded an even more impressive 6&5 win. With 3 matches still to be decided it was all to play for. Hannah Robb and Rory Dyce both lost 2&1and it was left to Brad Bannerman who had never been behind in his match but had been pegged back to all square after 14 to see if he could secure the win for the team. Brad showing no nerves won the 15th and after both hitting the green on 16 shared pars and both hit good drives down 17, Brad was first to play and finished just off the back of the green, Jennifer Saxton second shot found the putting surface but also at the back. A brilliant chip and a conceeded putt left Jennifer a difficult 2 putt but she was up to the task and a half in pars took the match to 18. Brads drive split the fairway and a superb iron to 12ft left a 2 putt to secure a well earned victory but Jennifer was not finished and hit her 3rd shot to 3ft. With a crowd now gathered round the green Brad rolled his putt to the hole and Jennifer asked him to mark and after holing out so well all day missed her 3ft to leave a tap in for a great 2up win and a 3&2 win for Strathmore.
I am so proud of how our teams perform and the high quality of golf they produce, they never fail to give their best and the team aspect seems to inspire them.
Special mention to Tod Bannerman and Alex Simpson who made their County debuts today also at Kinross against Lothians. The next generation of our Scratch League team.
A very happy Junior Convenor is looking forward to our next match against Muckhart at Strathmore on Sunday 15th July can't wait !!!!
