WHAT A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE

I would like to thank P&K County Golf Union for this weekend’s fantastic P&K Masters Final. Alex and I qualified and played our semi final on Gullane number 2 on Saturday. We went 3 up after 3 and were pegged back and by 16 were 2 down with 2 to play, dormie but won 17 and when Alex hit a 3 iron to 3ft for an eagle 2 on 18 it was all square and extra holes were required. Unfortunately we lost on the 21st. We then went to our overnight accommodation, the Renaissance Club, the current home of the Scottish Open and wow what a place !!!! 5 Star plus. Our room was spectacular. The food was superb. The Course today was amazing and makes it into my top 2 after Kingsbarns. The greens are huge with unbelievable undulations making putting and approach play very important. We gelled well today. Alex birdied the first and I birdied the par 5 3rd after finding a fairway bunker and hitting my 3rd shot to 10ft and holing out. We stayed 2 up through 7 before losing 8 but restored that on 9 and increased it to 3 when I birdied the 10th. We lost 11 and 14 before halving 16 with birdies Alex only missing out with his eagle putt. The par 3 17th with the pin in a bowl behind the front bunker forced us all to go big and we both played decent chips to within 4 foot and when Alex’s putt slipped past I was left to hole out and win the match and secure 3rd place. With this being Alex’s last amateur event before playing as a Professional it was my pleasure to spend the last 2 days in his company. His ball striking is amazing and distance control superb and he is a credit to his family who have given him so much support and I know he will be a success wherever his golfing career takes him.
We were 4 under par better ball gross both days in very windy conditions (3 club wind) on 2 very testing courses. I wish Alex ever success as a Pro and can’t wait to play with him in pro-ams at the Midlands Alliance.

FUN DAY

Five adults and five juniors took part in today’s fun day on Leitfie. The scoring was again excellent with Conan and Dawn topping the leader board with a one under par 26. In second place was Cammy and his Dad Bruce with a one over 29. Well done everyone

Iain wasn’t playing in our day today as him and past Junior Captain Alex Simpson are playing the semi finals of the P&K masters at Gullane. They were 2 up at the turn so all good wishes for the back nine. Will keep you posted.

GETTING READY FOR THE BIG COURSE

Whilst Lochlan decided to get his first Winter League card in, Cameron played for handicap with his dad and the MacCuish family were out playing on Leitfie it was time to test Archie and Keegan off the yellow tees. Dawn, Jackie and Archie teed off 1st and Archie’s drive was 138 yds into a strong breeze, very impressive. Ian, Keegan and I teed off 2nd and were very impressed by Keegan’s tee shot as well. Both boys played well. Keegan’s highlight was a 6 on the 8th and Archie managed 2 nett Eagles on the 4th and the 10th. Dawn and Jackie believe Archie is more than ready for the big course and looking at his scores he would have had a full Congu handicap in the mid 40’s. Keegan by the 10th had tired legs and when we phoned ahead to let the other team know we should only play 12 Archie’s reply was “we can still play 18 it’s maybe because my dad has lost all his balls !!!” So much fun today and team 1 ran out winners by 8 points. Great to see all these youngsters out playing and having fun. This is Golf’s future.

RACE TO BE KING OR QUEEN OF THE CASTLE

Kirsten is Strathmore’s only qualifier and we wish her, as the only girl, the best of luck in the final. Cammy just missed out on count back.

ANOTHER PAST MEMBER DONATES CLUBS

Huge thanks to another past Strathmore Junior member. Scottish Internationalist Katy Alexander donated 3 sets of Masters irons, a 3 wood and a putter which we will add to our growing stock of clubs. It’s great that these youngsters keep up to date with what we are doing at the club and appreciate the help we gave them when they first started.

RUSSELL BAILEY

4 teams took part and only 4 shots covered the field with Chloe and Derek running out winners from Blair and Frankie. Everyone had a great time and just a pity the field wasn’t bigger. All Dawn’s playing on the wee course played dividends today when she retained the Ladies Scratch Leitfie Links Championship for the 3rd year and 13th time in total.

MORE SHOES NOW AVAILABLE

For some time now we have been running a golf shoe recycling scheme. With youngsters growing so quickly often golf shoes are grown out not worn out of so we encouraged any of our members with good quality shoes to donate them to the section. So far more than 12 kids have benefited from this and I now have another 7 pairs FREE to a good home.
