NEW MEMBER 27 FOR 2025

Callan Mackie became new member 27 for 2025 and will be fitted from our extensive range of hire clubs and will get the 56th set hired out this year. No problem him being left handed, we have these sets in stock. Making golf affordable and accessible is what we try to achieve and providing them with opportunities to play and have fun is what it’s all about.

Another new enquiry as well !!

PAST CAPTAIN KIRSTEN MILLER

Past Junior Captain Kirsten Miller currently home from her Golf Scholarship at Mount Mercy University, Cedar Rapids, Iowa kindly came along today to coach 4 of our girls, 3 of which are in this years Golf Hub. She worked with each girl individually and passed on some great tips to help them improve. They all loved it. She said she was more than happy to help and give something back to Strathmore which is testament to her and appreciated by us and the Section. Great to have a chat with her afterwards and catch up with all her news. She was really interested to hear how the section and past juniors were doing.

At the Gents Amateur at Gullane past junior Cormac Sharpe shot 2 under and is currently tied 25th out of a field of 260.

Archie Pattullo improved his score by 1 shot today with a 77 and sits tied 22nd Scratch and tied 13th handicap at the SGF under 15’s at Kingsknowe.

STRATHMORE JUNIORS AMAZE ME AGAIN

Both our Bell Salver teams have qualified from their respective leagues by both finishing 2nd and by doing so have avoided playing each other in the semi finals. Strathmore 1 will play Crieff 2 and Strathmore 2 will play Auchterarder. This is a first for Strathmore and I believe the first time a club has had 2 teams qualify. Although Keegan Fergusson was the only one to take a point against Auchterarder on Sunday, by taking 7 points previously, Strathmore 1 had already qualified. Strathmore 2 had to win against Crieff 1 and did so in some style. Stuart Duncan giving 8 shots won 4&3, newly crowned Club Champion Louis Purdie giving 9 shots won 7&6 and Joseph Frullani who was receiving 11 shots won 5&4.
So proud of all the players who made themselves available for selection and those who played in the matches. Unfortunately only 4 players can be selected for each semi final team but that’s our headache. Strathmore 1 will play Crieff 2 at Auchterarder
Strathmore 2 will play Auchterarder at Crieff
Strathmore GolfSixes team played their last event at North Inch, very young inexperienced team who will benefit from playing in these fun games.
Archie Loudon reduced his handicap to 19.7 and picked up a £40 voucher by finishing 2nd handicap in the Kingussie junior open,
Archie Pattullo is playing in the Stephen Gallacher Foundation under 15 Championship at Kingsknowe and after the first round is tied 18 scratch and tied 14 handicap with 2 rounds to go.

FINALS DAY

In the Scratch Final Archie Pattullo was three up through five. Louis Purdie won the sixth and ninth to get it back to one down at the turn. A fantastic approach shot on eleven set up a birdie to square the match. He followed up with another birdie on thirteen and went on to win 4&3.

In the Handicap Final Archie Loudon was three up through six. Olly Stevenson then won seven, eight and nine to square the match at the turn. He took the lead on the twelfth but was pegged pack when Archie birdied sixteen. On seventeen Archie pushed his tee shot and finished in a ditch, undeterred he decided to play the shot from a near impossible position and got in onto the green and secured a half. All square going up the last, both players had putts to win. The excitement grew and up the nineteenth it went where Archie held his nerve to win the match

Both games were played in great spirit and it was nice to see Junior Captain Stuart Duncan caddy for Louis and Cameron Galloway caddy for Archie. Another junior Conan Reid contested the Gents Final with younger brother Keir on the bag but a 69 first 18 by Chris Flannigan made it difficult for him and he couldn’t peg him back. In the Ladies Final past junior Captain and Scottish Internationalist Kirsty Brodie won against Ladies Captain Judy Goodfellow.

The Juniors are the lifeblood of any club and it was good to see past junior Scratch Champion and Junior Captain Mark Scott out for a game with junior member Keegan Fergusson and Callum Ewan another past Junior Captain out supporting the finalists.

Andrew Brass and Jack Short both were fitted for Hire Clubs bringing total sets hired out for 2025 to 55. Nearly 70% of our juniors use the scheme including all 4 junior finalist and both their caddy’s.

Louis Purdie won 7&6 v Cameron Galloway

Archie Pattullo won 5&3 v Keegan Fergusson

Handicap

Olly Stevenson won 5&3 v Alasdair Brass

Good luck to all finalists on Saturday and so proud of all our juniors who have played in all the qualifiers. We have a huge weekend coming up with the finals and both our Bell Salver teams playing on Sunday. Strathmore 1 have already qualified and Strathmore 2 could join them in the semi finals.

I am so proud of all the squad members, part of our development programme includes matchplay and these youngster are proving it works. The camaraderie building within the section is something we have no control over but it develops and grows. Watching these kids having fun, chatting as they go round and building lifelong friendships is what junior golf is all about.

ALEX SIMPSON

Scottish Internationalist, PGA Professional and past Junior Captain Alex Simpson, who is back from Australia visiting his family, took time out yesterday to come along to Strathmore to do 2 coaching sessions and a masterclass in on course management. Alex worked with the 10 who attended and used his experience to help them all. It was fantastic for everyone to listen and learn from from him and Keir Reid will take so much from his individual masterclass.
I can’t thank Alex enough for giving up his valuable time. He never forgets his roots and appreciates the support he received as a junior and has come back numerous times to pass on his knowledge and help Strathmore players achieve their dreams.

JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER

Keir Reid shot a very impressive 88 nett 68 to win by 3 shots from the very consistent Louis Purdie who shot a gross 80 nett 71.

KING JAMES V1 JUNIOR OPEN

Another great result for Archie Puttullo who finished 3rd Scratch just one shot behind the winner. Valuable points gained again in the Gleneagles Scholarship race. Louis Purdie finished 7th. In the handicap event Archie again featured with a 7th place and Archie Loudon finished 10th. Great to see Strathmore Juniors featuring again.

STRATHMORE 1 QUALIFY FOR THE SEMI FINALS OF THE BELL SALVER

After beating Blairgowrie GC 3.5/0.5 at home and drawing 2/2 with Muckhart GC away, the young team headed to North Inch GC today for their third match. Keegan Fergusson found himself 4 down but fought back to win on the 17th. Keir Reid was dormie 3 down but took it to 18th where unfortunately lost out. Archie Loudon won 4&3 and Struan Shepherd, playing match play for the first time, won 5&4. What a fantastic result. They have 7 points which secures their place in the semi finals and still have to play Auchterarder GC at Strathmore to see who tops the group.

These youngsters are improving so much and their confidence is sky high. Playing the internal club match play league has taught them how to never give up and anything can happen in this format.

So proud of all the players in the squad.

26th NEW MEMBER FOR 2025

Huge welcome to Reid Curran who becomes our latest new member. Looking forward to meeting up and introducing him to the other juniors.

RESULTS FROM SUNDAY

County Junior Match Play. Only Archie Loudon progressed to the semi finals where unfortunately he missed out. Will have to wait until next year now. GolfSixes at Crieff Strathmore finished 4th but had great fun. GolfNines at North Inch Joseph Frullani and Andrew Brass tied for second only missing out by one shot.

HUGE WEEKEND

Saturday 5th Club Championship qualifier with Stuart Duncan taking the honours with a gross 81 nett 74.
Sunday - Strathmore are represented by 6 players in the Perth and Kinross junior Matchplay Championships, the most from any club. Archie Pattullo and Angus Palmer in the Scratch and Jessica Sievwright, Archie Loudon, Keegan Fergusson and Ally Brass in the Handicap. Unfortunately Archie and Keegan meet each other in the last 8 but as a positive we are guaranteed one player in the semi finals. Our best wishes go to all the players and hopefully we will other progress.
Joseph Frullani and Andrew Brass represent Strathmore at North Inch in the GolfNines and Cameron Duncan, Ollie McLaren, Willow Rae, Hunter McQueen, Mia Baxter and Euan Tuddenham are at Crieff on GolfSixes duty.
Finally Isabel Cullen the Captain at Cardross collected the 10 sets of ex hire clubs we sold them. I had a very interesting chat with her and another great connection has been made. Only Elgin and Stirling have to collect their sets and we only have 7 sets left after selling 61. It’s been brilliant to be able to help other clubs through Scotland either set up or enhance their own schemes. The fantastic enthusiastic people I have met makes me convinced that the growth in junior golf will continue to progress. Clubs are getting more involved and realise that juniors are their future.

MUCKHART JUNIOR OPEN

Archie Pattullo and Louis Purdie pick up points. Archie shot a gross 74 and was pipped by a better inward half. Louis’s 80 placed him 7th. They also finished 2nd and 5th in the handicap division respectively.

Jim Attwood from Inverness GC picked up 4 of our ex hire half sets which just leaves 7 sets to go.

JUNE MEDAL

Firstly thanks to our newest junior committee member Callum Ewan who deputised for Dawn and I today.  He is a past junior Captain and we are delighted that he agreed to assist us in running the section.

The conditions today were horrendous but the course was still playable and that was verified by the scoring. Louis Purdie shot a gross 79 nett 67 !! This year just gets better. Tomorrow we will be well represented at the Muckhart Junior Open and let’s see what happens next ?

SATURDAY DRAW

The draw for Saturday is below. It is a Medal so off the whites. Both Iain and I are both away but we are delighted that past Junior Captain, Callum Ewan,  will be performing his first duty as a new member of our committee. Callum will be joining the final group and seeing you all off.

WHAT AN AMAZING RESPONSE

As most of you know my club hire scheme has been running for 13 years. It’s been an incredible success, adopted by Scottish Golf and rolled out nationally.

Due to an additional grant we received from SSE Drumderg Community Fund and income generated from hire charges we have been able to upgrade all our clubs to full sets. This meant we had loads of half sets unused.

I took the decision to sell them off at discounted rates and also to include some of our other full sets that were surplus to requirement. What a success it has been.

Dullatur bought 5 sets, Cowal 5 sets, Hollandbush 7 sets, Kingennie 3 sets, Cardross 10 sets, Elgin 10 sets,  King James V1 6 sets, Stirling have reserved 6 sets and Inverness 2 sets. That’s 54 sets leaving us with 14 plus a few others I might consider.

It’s all about getting more youngsters into golf and making it affordable. The purchasing of clubs is often a  stumbling block for participation but with the hire scheme that hurdle is taken away.

BELL SALVER, MUCKHART V STRATHMORE 1

So proud of our young team today. Their confidence has grown so much and having introduced the 12 and under matchplay League at the Club last year, these youngsters have picked up so much experience. They travelled to Muckhart today and came away with a fantastic halved match. Keegan Fergusson led them out and secured a great 2 up win. Keir Reid had a great 6&4 win. Unfortunately Jessica Sievwright and Archie  Loudon both lost out on the 18th hole. So close to a remarkable win but a halved match away from home is very acceptable. They are now in a very strong position having won their first match against Blairgowrie.
At the Barrie Douglas today Conan Reid finished tied 62nd and Angus Palmer withdrew yesterday due to injury. Past member Tarah Simpson tied 28th in the Girls event.

Draw for tomorrow, note the later tee times!

QUIET COUPLE OF DAYS

Darcy Fleming became our 25th new member for 2025. She also became our 6th Scottish Golf Girls Hub participant and completes our compliment for this year. Last night Dawn and I spent 2 hours with Aoife Short and Darcy, started by Club fitting from our Hire Scheme, free golf shoes from our swap scheme followed by time on the range, working on grip, set up, ball positioning and swing. We then used the practice area for pitching and chip and runs. We then spent time on the putting green on pace and distance control before going onto the course to play some holes. Aoife achieved her 1st Certificate. Took a phone call from Hollandbush Golf Club regarding buying some of our ex hire sets and had an interesting chat with Mags. Today I sent her photographs of available clubs and she is keen to progress. Then tonight Liz from King James V1 phoned me with another enquiry. Messaged Alan from Kingennie who also made an enquiry. This is fantastic to be able to help other clubs get their own schemes up and running. We are selling sets for £20 each so if they rent them out for £25 an instant profit and a no brainer to grow golf and make it affordable and accessible. This is becoming huge and definitely the way forward.

UPDATED DRAW

Great to have five players in the matchplay

P&K JUNIOR STROKEPLAY AND GOLFSIXES

Crieff hosted on Sunday and what a result for Strathmore juniors. 11 competed. Archie Puttullo finished 2nd scratch with a fantastic 68 being pipped by one shot. He won the handicap section with a nett 62. Archie Loudon had a nett 65 with Keegan Fergusson and Alasdair Brass nett 68’s. Angus Palmer finished 3rd scratch with a 71.

Archie Pattullo is 2nd seed in the scratch with Archie Loudon, Keegan Fergusson and Alasdair Brass all avoiding each other in the last 8 of the handicap matchplay.

Blairgowrie hosted the GolfSixes and we finished 4th but the youngsters had great fun and will learn from the experience.
