HOW YOUR JUNIOR CONVENOR SPENDS HIS TIME OFF

a day out with the Bulls near Madrid Spain. OOOOOOOO 2 of our guys caught fair and square with the bull in the first few seconds. No David it is not Drum just a little bit bigger.
un dia con Torro mi hermano y consuegro Iain no rapido suficiente.

Thought I should share this picture showing me practising my break dancing skills whilst on my daughters fiances Stag weekend in Madrid last weekend. I'm the one doing the head spin just right of the bull !!!

Fortunately my golfing is better than my bull running but I have been asked to star in a remake of "Dancing with Wolves" renamed "Dancing with Bulls" co starring Sandra Bullock. Watch this space!  I am also considering "Raging Bull" after seeing one close up.

A close up of the fall!!

ALEX AND MARCUS HELP P&K DEFEAT LOTHIANS IN THEIR OWN BACK YARD

  1. Both Alex and Marcus played their parts in a great away win in Edinburgh today, what an amazing week. Alex was top points scorer for P&K with Marcus being 4th equal overall - so pleased for both boys.

match won by Perth & Kinross 108 points to 102 (the lowest individual score does not count)
A great win by the P&K Team, the match being played in gale force winds on a course which made Craigie Hill look flat !!.
The photo below of the P&K team will give you an idea of how windy the conditions were !!!!!!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

When playing off an up slope take one more club (as the slope adds loft), if the green is uphill take one more club and if playing into a breeze take one more. So if you face an uphill shot off an uphill lie into a breeze take 3 more. Alternatively off a down slope take one club less (as the slope delofts the club) if the green is downhill take one less and if wind assisted take one less.

So question is - if playing off a down slope to a to an uphill green wind assisted what club do you take? The first junior on Monday's Fun night to give me the correct answer wins a prize !!!

SATURDAY UPDATE

Scratch league 2nd match and a tough one away at Pitlochry. Michael Brodie led out the team but met an inspired opponent who was 5 under par after 14 (despite 2 bogies) amazing scoring. Kirsty Brodie was 4 up but her opponent pegged her back back and she found herself 1 down with 2 to play but a few encouraging words were enough to see her win 17 and secure a good par on 18 for a half. Alex Simpson had a great 4&3 win and debutant Tod Bannerman also had a great 2&1 win which left another debutant Marcus Ryan to see if we could get something from his match. He had never been behind in his match until the 15th and just failed losing out 2&1 but I would have taken a draw before the match so a fair result. I think we need Muckhart to win against Crieff and then go to Crieff and win to reach the semi finals.

Whilst out on the course I received a call from a very excited Amy Mitchell who had broken through the 100 barrier for the first time with a spectacular 93!!! and in her words "it could have been better - putting !"

Sitting at our after match meal tonight it was great to be part of the banter between the players and it was obvious to me that Pitlochry and Strathmore should both be very proud that their players can play competitive golf and bring their mutual respect and obvious friendship back to the table. This is what golf should be.

WHY BEING STRATHMORE JUNIOR CONVENOR IS SO MUCH FUN

Monday - Junior Captain and Vice Captain both show up at 1st fun night along with 13 others, I am delighted by their commitment to their roles. Great night and I witnessed some great shots. The improvement and confidence of these Juniors are exciting to witness.
Tuesday - A delighted Alex Simpson informs me he had been selected to play in the P&K under 16 team ! amazing.
Wednesday - Walked round with Michael Brodie who won his Gents quarter final 6&5. Caddying for him on Friday in the semi final.
Thursday -Phone call from Marcus Ryan's mum saying he's is really excited about being selected to play his 1st scratch league match. Michael takes himself and Strathmore Juniors to a new level by winning the Nick Faldo scratch Championship at Panmure and phones later to check arrangements for tomorrow. Received a reply to my email to Amy Mitchell's mum confirming she had won her 1st competition and a 3 stroke cut - reply " Wow!! Fantastic, super excited and very proud!! Thank you". Chatted with 2 past Juniors tonight who were delighted to hear of Michael's success.
Friday - caddied for Michael in his 5&3 win, brilliant display of golf. This was after he shot 1 under par in the King James V1 junior open! 2 past juniors were there to meet us as we came off the 15th, great to see them there. Michael is in the final and the 2 ex juniors were Alan Easton and Matthew Bell who I played in 2 previous finals. I am so proud that we have ex juniors coming along to support.
Saturday - Scratch league at Pitlochry

OUR GREATEST EVER INDIVIDUAL RESULT

Michael Brodie has taken himself and Strathmore Juniors to a new level. Today at Panmure he shot a 71 to add to his 73 of yesterday to not only win his under 18 age section but the whole Championship. I am so pleased for Michael, his work ethic is 2nd to non and his attention to detail on the course is mature beyond his years. I have no doubt that this win will take Michael's game to that new level. Roll on the Ireland where Michael will play in the Faldo Series final. I spoke with Michael to congratulate him and ask him about his spectacular finish - a decent tee shot followed by a good iron shot over the bunker which ran out and found the bottom of the cup for a magnificent eagle - that's the way to close out. Brilliant !!!

Kirsty Brodie finished 2nd in the Girls Under 16 section.

DEFINITELY OUR BEST RESULT EVER

I had it confirmed today that my application for funding from Drumderg has been successful. Along with the donation of £225 from Strathmore Golf Club's Alyth Quiz league team and £75 from Junior Funds we now have £1,800 available to purchase clubs for various age groups and enable junior members to join our scheme and  be able to play with the correct size of clubs right through their growing years without incurring the expense of having to purchase, then trade in, and purchase again up to 3 or 4 times.

The money generated will be used to maintain and replace and ensure that the scheme will self finance and create a sustainable plan for years to come. I think this is our best result ever and will enhance our junior programme indefinitely.

Absolutely fantastic result Iain. Well done for all of your efforts - it's really appreciated by everyone, and will make a huge difference to the development of the Juniors in your section

David - Strathmore Golf Centre

LOUISE BLOOR CONFIRMS HER UPGRADE TO THE BIG COURSE IN STYLE

Having already played her 1st card for handicap and just missing it by 1 shot I said (see below) if she practised her putting it would be no problem. Last time 50 putts tonight 39 putts - 11 putts less and as I predicted her card tonight would give her a Junior Club handicap of 44 (11 below her last round - spot the coincidence)  Highlight of the round was her 1st par, the sixth. A well struck 7 iron to the front of the green and a great first putt left a simple 2 footer and high 5's followed. Thanks to Amy Mitchell who played along with Louise and our squads for years to come has just added another member.
Had the pleasure of taking Louise out for her 1st card for handicap on the Rannaleroch course and she just missed out by 1 shot. With 2 cards still to go it will be no problem. A bit of putting practise will put it right. Well done Louise, another bright prospect for the future.
