Before they played we had a team talk and I told our players that what I was looking for today apart from a victory was to see our team walking proudly up the fairway heads held high, chests puffed out and smiles on their faces and no matter how their individual matches were going not to let their heads go down but to keep believing and not to give their opponents any encouragement. Alex Simpson responded by telling me he was going to go out and win 6&5 but went one better and won 7&5 with confidence in your own ability to make such a statement and then go out and do it is amazing and Alex gave us the 1st point on the board. Tod Bannerman unfortunately lost out 5&4 so the match scores was level. Kirsty Brodie who had been 2 up found herself 1 down after 15 and Callum Ewan who had been 3 up was pegged back to 1 up on 13 and Conor Hughes who was 2 down after 10 things were starting not to look so good for Strathmore but I had a word with all 3 and Kirsty won 16 to square her match and with her opponent looking in trouble off the tee on 17 I told her just to ignore the pin and play safe and go for the middle of the green, she gave me the widest smile imaginable when she turned to see the pin was slap bang in the middle! and she proceeded to hit the green win the hole and turn her match round. Conor at the back went on a winning run from 11 and by 15 was dormie and Callum had also got himself into a similar position and finished of his game on 16 4&2 and was followed by Connor who halved 16 to give us the 3 points required. Kirsty's match finished all square to give us a 3.5 v 1.5 win. I am so proud of the performance and the way the players responded and kept believing. We are now in the semi final and look forward to playing who ever where ever as we are definitely favourites this year to go to Gleneagles and follow in the footsteps of our Scratch League team and win at the 2nd attempt. I would also like to thank Marcus Ryan who assisted me today and Amy Mitchell who assisted me at Kinross.
