PROBABLY ONE OF OUR BEST RESULTS EVER

Giving away a combined 8 years and 8 shots in handicap terms Strathmore hosted an exceptionally strong Muckhart team and knowing the strengths of our team I knew we could compete and get something out of the match. Michael Brodie led the team out and was in a hurry to win his match and get us off to a flier and was 5 up at the turn playing some incredible golf, Brad Bannerman was all square after 9 having lost the 5th to an eagle !, Kirsty Brodie who in the morning had been part of the North team who won the SLGA Inter Divisional Team Championship at Glenisla (winning 2 out of her 3 matches)  was in control of her match and turned 1 up, Alex Simpson who was giving away the most years & strokes was 4 up and cruising and Calum Sinclair was 1 up and everything was looking good but Muckhart started to stage a comeback and by the 13th Michael was back to 2 up and on the 15th had to hole from 15ft to stay 1 up. On 16 Michael's tee shot finished just off the putting surface and an easy birdie allowed him to close his match out 2&1 on 17. Brad found his opponent too tough to crack and despite playing well lost out 3&2. Kirsty kept her form and closed her match out 2&1 and with Calum losing 2&1 it left Alex who had seen his 4 hole lead evaporate to come up the last all square, being out driven by 50 yds he stuck to his game plan and hit a great 2nd and his 3rd was unlucky not to hold the front portion of the green but his opponents approach shot also kicked through and found the back fringe so it became a putting competition and Alex who had seen his opponent just miss his putt was left with an outside chance of a win and had to watch as his putt agonisingly ran past the hole but a half meant a square match and this result rates as as probably one of our best ever.

This morning I played a few holes with Freya and Josh Edington and their dad and then met Andrew Smith, Luke and Nicolas Melvin who I was pleased to see doing their exercises before teeing off and later stayed on to watch our Scratch League team tee off.
