Work began today to fill in all the bunkers at Strathmore Golf Centre. Due to Covid restrictions special Local Rules were introduced in 2020 as all rakes had to be removed in case of cross contamination. This has proved to be a disaster across the country with golfers not adhering to the new rules and taking wrong relief. Strathmore were asked to trial an innovational experiment. Every bunker is now out of play but will be marked by blue lines. If you land in the area you take your nearest point of relief not nearer the hole and play from there. At the end of each round you take how many times you landed in a previous bunker area and add on the strokes as per the table below.
One bunker - no penalty strokes.
Two bunkers - no penalty strokes as long as you don’t get up and down (greenside bunkers only) If you do get up and down add one shot.
Three bunkers - one shot penalty but refer to Two bunker rule which will apply. Appendix rule also applies, see below.
Four bunkers - one shot penalty but refer to Two bunker rule which will apply. Appendix rule also applies.
Appendix
Handicaps + to 5 no additional penalty, 6 to 10 add 1 shot, 11 to 18 add 2 shots, 18 to 28 add 3 shots and 28 + Handicaps add 4 shots
