UNDEFEATED - BUT MAYBE NOT GOOD ENOUGH

This afternoon our scratch team took on league leaders Crieff away and knew a win would see us through. It was a tall order as Crieff had won both their matches so far but I knew our team would do their best. Michael started bogie, birdie, birdie, par, birdie, birdie, par, birdie to go 5 up and won 5&4, Marcus was up against from the start when his opponent chipped in for a 2 and lost 7&5. Brad lost out 3&1 and Alex won 4&2. Kirsty was 2 up coming down 16 and lost out to a birdie and also lost 17 to mean everything was resting on the final hole. She hit a great drive and followed it with a great pitch to 12ft and her opponent who was pin high off the tee hit his pitch outside Kirsty's but rolled his putt down to the hole and left Kirsty a putt for the match which was inches from going in. A great half and a superb result for Strathmore. But with 3 points gained we had to hope Pitlochry and Muckhart had a close match - draw being the ideal result which would have been good enough to see us make the semi finals. We then found out Pitlochry did not field a side and gave Muckhart a 5 v 0 win. I am gutted for our team who are undefeated this campaign and will feel aggrieved to lose out in such a cruel manner.
