BLUE YZ THE 50th OSPREY CHICK OF LADY (LOCH OF THE LOWES) CLOSES 4 HOLES AT STRATHMORE.
Lady the osprey has laid 70 eggs and reared 50 chicks over two decades at Loch of the Lowes
Officers from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds converged on Strathmore today after the arrival of Blue YZ the 50th chick of Lady. A visiting golfer and keen ornithologist spotted the bird circling the pond at the 5th tee and called the RSPB who using Sat Nav technology confirmed that the Osprey which was starting to build a nest in the tree beside the 4th green was indeed Blue YZ. Consultation between Strathmore Golf Centre, RSPB, SLGA and SGU have been taking place all day and the decision to close 4 holes (3rd,4th.5th and7th) was taken. After playing the 2nd hole a path has been cordoned off to the 6th hole and then to the Leitfie Course where holes 5,6,7& 8 are to be played before rejoining the 8th and 9th on Rannaleroch, the back 9 is uneffected. David has been in constant contact with the SLGA regarding the impending Under 16 Championhip and 2 options are available either to re assess the course including the 4 hole changes or to extend the tee times to allow the back 9 to be played twice.
Tonight hundreds of Twitchers flocked to photograph our newest member.

MY CONFIDENCE IN SCRATCH LEAGUE TEAM IS PROVEN BEYOND DOUBT
My confidence has cascaded down to our players who also believe they have the ability to go all the way this season. Kirsty made quick work of her match winning by a personal best 9&7 and was off the course first to support Michael who led by example and eagled the 1st to set up a great 5&4 win. Tod was next up with a tremendous 7&5 win. Brad and Alex's matches were a bit closer and Brad after going 1 down to a birdie on 9 birdied 10 and 11 to go back to 1 up then went all square losing to a birdie on 12 (4 holes 4 birdies, tough school!) he birdied 15 (4th of his round) to go one one up lost 17 but won 18 to go 2up. Alex was dormie after 16 lost 17 but also won 18 to finish 2 up. What a team performance. Before they teed off they warmed up and practised together, during the match they always wanted to know how each other was doing and when their matches were finished they joined me to support their team mates. I also introduced a new concept today, players - player of the day, a secret vote and Michael was the proud recipient.
This result sets us up for another fantastic season with more success guaranteed.
Next matches confirmed -
Saturday 19th April - Auchterarder away
Saturday 17th May - Muckhart away
Sunday 29th June - Crieff away
Home matches against Craigie Hill/Murrayshall and Blairgowrie still to be confirmed.

The winning Newman University team
EMILY AIRD (FAR RIGHT) FINISHES FIFTH IN LIONS CLASSIC AT FORT SMITH, ARIZONA
Emily Aird (Newman University, Wichita, Kansas), a freshman and past Strathmore Junior, achieved the best finish of her first year in US women's college golf when she finished fifth in a field of 51 at the Lions Classic at Hardscrabble Country Club, Fort Smith in Arkansas.
Emily had rounds of 83 and 76 for 159 over a par-70 course of 5,962yd.
She finished only four strokes behind the joint winners, Margaret Musser (Southwest Oklahoma State) (76-76) and Newman team-mate Kendall Anderson (75-80).
With three players in the top 10, Newman won the team event by 12 shots from SW Oklahoma State in a field of 10.
Well done Emily from all at Strathmore

Congratulations to the Junior Scratch Team for their win over Pitlochry today.
I played with Alex yesterday at the Captain's Drive In event. It was a privilege! I just wish I'd had my binoculars with me to see where his drives landed! All were on his target even though I had no idea where they ended up!
Once again I have enjoyed playing with one of the talented youngsters who are coached and inspired by you. His course etiquette and care shown to a me were without fault. I was particularly impressed by his reactions to a missed putt....while obviously disappointed he was able to absorb a lesson from it, retrying the putt if possible, but never showing a temper.
Whatever you are doing Iain you are doing it well!
Good luck to all the Juniors, in all of their events, for 2014.

I’m not sure which one I liked best – the result or the letter from Kay!
Awesome result, and wonderful and well deserved comments from Kay. You’ll have
done well to have kept the eyes dry! Sincere congratulations to all concerned.

SUPER SUNDAY
Tomorrow Strathmore field what in my opinion is our strongest Scratch League team ever and I am very confident this years team can not only emulate our 2012 teams success but with this years format of having only one league I think not only can we win the cup but top the League as well. I have every confidence in all our players and tomorrow can't come quick enough.
TIP OF THE DAY
Before commencing a round of golf have a practice routine
1. Warm up by stretching and excercising
2. Hit some chips and pitches
3. Hit some mid and long irons
4. Hit some drives
5. Practice putt - it's likely that 50% of your score will be putts !!!
Try it and see

MATCH PLAY - TIPS FOR SUCCESS

TIP OF THE DAY
When putting from under 3ft make a shorter take away and by doing so this forces you to hit the putt slightly harder and if hit on line the ball will always finish up in the cup. By using this tip you alleviate the chance of decelerating and the ball will stay straight and not take any subtle breaks. Try it and see.

CHANGES TO FIXTURE LIST AND DATES FOR YOUR DIARIES
Auchterarder have got back to us with dates for our away Scratch League match which will be played at 2.30pm on Saturday 19th April this clashed with our 1st Club Championship Qualifier so I have swapped it with Summer League (2) and Qualifier will take place on 12th and SL(2) on the 19th. I hope to have the other matches organised by the start of the season depending on how quick the other convenors respond.

SCOTTISH JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
Michael Brodie finished tied 33rd today at The Dukes and must be congratulated on being the 1st Strathmore player to qualify to play in Scotlands premier Junior event.
LEITFIE LINKS SCRATCH CHAMPIONSHIP
Today I won my favourite competition for the 12th time. Dawn also won the Ladies Scratch yesterday. I will now give a history lesson. We moved to Alyth in 1994 and I had played golf at Alyth Golf Club as a youngster when I lived in Coupar Angus but when we moved back into the area most clubs had waiting lists. I heard there was a new course being planned and went to meet Pat Barron who drove me round his fields in a Landrover showing me where the courses were planned. We decided to join and are members 21 and 22. In 1995 the Leitfie Course opened and we had to wait until 1996 to play the Rannaleroch Course but during that time we played Leitfie and what a brilliant place to practice your short game. Every March before the season starts I go down after work and get in 9 holes. 5 years ago when I became junior convenor we played most of our competitions on the wee course but as time has gone on and the improvements our juniors have made we hold most of our competitions on the Rannaleroch but our Captains drive in, fun competitions and texas scrambles are still held on Leitfie and I am convinced this practice has helped our juniors progress to where they are today. As most of you know I am quite competitive and am always up for a challenge and issued this one on the 24th January 2014 - Only January and so much happening. Really excited to see what 2014 brings - with the nights starting to stretch I feel the Leitfie challenge looming and with my last round being a 59 can't wait to see who is first to step up to give it a go !!! Only Alex Simpson took up the challenge but we played the big Course every time as he has the advantage of out hitting me off the tee !! Well done today to junior captain Callum Ewan who took 3rd place nett only losing out by one shot.
